Hello!
I'm looking to get into SUP. I'm female, 5'4, 120 lbs, fairly fit but without much balance.
I would like to get a board for the ocean, mostly to use on flat water but I would also like to learn to catch some smaller waves in the future. Been thinking about the Naish Mana 10'. Stability is the most important factor for me.
Thanks!

Welcome.. and the 10' Mana would be great choice imo.. Also consider the 9'5'' Mana [like mine]..

If you can.. get the new 2014 model because they're even better than the past Mana's.

Tre Causal with the stick over the shoulder! 9 6 all wave is also a good tip

remember you want to be able to carry it with some ease or you will get annoyed trying to lump around a very heavy object.....

Hello

Any chance I could ask the same question for myself? what board would you recommend for a newbie...

I am looking for an ocean board (live in Shoalwater, rockingham so really have no excuse for not getting on the water....)

principally flat water, some waves. I have supped previously but entry level, dead calm, but I have more experience with windsurfing, so think I am ok on my feet.

I am 6'1 and about 100KG.

Are there any merits in inflatable boards or are they just gimmicks for the lazy likes of me?

Much appreciated
Tony

Welcome to the Breeze.. Inflatables are pretty good these days but IMO you're better to get a hard board unless you have storage problems or can't put roof racks on your car.. I'd recommend the 12'6"x30'' Naish Glide or the equivilent in an inflatable is the Naish 12'6" One.. Both great boards I'm 6'4" and 95kg and I paddle my 12'6" Glide most days.. You can have fun in small waves but it's not a surfing board.. If you want something that's more traditional shape and surfy I'd recommend the Naish 10'10" Nalu but I think the Glide is a better flat waster/ocean board.. Try and demo them and check other brands for similar boards.

Here's a vid that shows me on my 12'6" a Glide.

that's brilliant. thank you very much. where was the video taken by the way?

As that is exactly the sort of thing I want to get to....not hard core "Surfing" but the water messing

Many thanks

Tony there are many little surf breaks in Western port bay between Point Leo and Flinders..

That's one that we call Zappers because it's a long walk or paddle to get there and if you take a short cut and walk through private property from the main road you will get zapped on the electric fences..

Here's a few pics of my new 2014 model Glides.. Both 12'6'' and 14' boards.. The new board is the same shape but has a better handle and a much better deck pad.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your suggestions.
I'm also thinking about what would be best if I wanted to bring my 3 year old nephew with me. There's a used Naish Nalu 11'6 for sale but I wonder if it would be too bulky for me to carry (I'm 120 lbs, 5'4) but, then again, I'm pretty close to the water.
Thanks!
