having broken 3 leg ropes in a year in 3ft/4ft surf is there any thing particular to look for to reduce breakages?

What type are you breaking.. What length and what board?

Where are they breaking (they usually break at the welded joint at either end)....

Hand tied is actually stronger... 8mm chord might also help. Hand tied eliminates the welded joint.

You are close to Ocean & Earth, and could buy direct from them, or phone them up for a brief discussion about your problem.

Or ring Balin. They can make hand-tied leashes to suit.

cant fault the creatures outta reef,,

just replaced a 3yr old one,,, even with a reef nick going half way through the plastic it never snapped...and its had some evil stretches...

i was using the 10ft ankle... the 12ft is even thicker....


they just don't seem to snap, downside being you will get some eternal underwater drags,, but they do have a quick release...speaking of which:::
this probably saved my noggin once,,, when the leash got wrapped around some underwater rock columns...........
