Hi guys reading several posts a lot suggest changing fins to liven up the allwave and that it makes a big difference to performance of board. im about to purchase a new allwave 8'6 and im guessing it will come with standard fins..what are the best options for this board...cheers?
does being a thruster limit its performance ?
I moved my centre fin forward on my 8'10 allwave which loosened up the board significantly, IMO the stock fins are ok its not like you are hitting high speeds on an allwave so its really just personal preference.
I still prefer thrusters for both surfing and SUP.
Supmaori, on my 9'6" Allwave I run the standard side fins and a 8" FCS Dolphin centre fin.
For my style of surfing it gives better pivot and also hangs into the wave better.
Thruster set up is also my prference.

I put the Shapers fins on my last 8'10 Allwave and boy did they change the feel of the board. Smooth is the best word I can think of.

Stock fins are pretty good - use the board for a while before you buy - you might like what you get. I could see the benefit of smaller fins on the 8ft 6 though.....
Ahhhh, I'm a broken record on this, but I've thrown c-drives in my 8'5" starboard pro and the difference is remarkable, more than any other fin switch I've tried. Check out the website and give Troy a buzz if you're interested. And no, I am not on commission, just a zealous convert. But it might make y'all surf better so perhaps best I shut the 4*&k up.....

If you've got surfing ability (which it looks like you have!
) You'll be grinning like a Cheshire cat coz you'll know that you've got a board that you can use as a windsurfer, crappy and good conditions and even for exercise on the flat if worse comes to worse ( it is an advanceced ALLROUNDER). They are the surfboard equivalent of a Fish, they are for fun in lots of conditions, mushy, crosshore, onshore etc. You can definitely have fun in perfect waves, though you might still want a skinnier board for very hollow waves. I have only ever got barreled by accident on my 9'2" but I'm 183 cm and 100-110kg dependent on where in the footy season we are. At worst you will have a go to board that you can use all of the time!! At best you will use it all the time!!

I've bought a custom TSJ ( Laguna Bay) only because I'm addicted to SUP surfing (Cheaper than an ex-wife) and I want to try and get more barrels, which is IMHO the only thing that Allwaves struggle with. If you want to win comps you will also want a board with thinner rails to assist with verticality and cutbacks. I reckon I can gaurantee one thing and that is maximum enjoyment.

love the allwave very easy to move around on and catch a sick wave. I found that it having a thruster it did not affect the turning capability's that the allwave has to offer before the allwave I was ridding a 10 foot sunjam sup and just the difference from 10 foot to 8'6 is awesome the shape of the board makes easy to youse out in the surf or on the river worth every penny

I see you are in NZ (Like me).
I only just started my SUP career so I am looking at improving my board with better fins as well but have no experience on different types of set up and fin styles. (heck I have no clue what my own style is yet...LOL).
Something I am considering is the "fin exchange" from the supshed in Orewa( supshed.com)
You pay $50 and can use variety of shapers fins to try out. Bring em back undamaged and grab a new pair till you find the right one.
He may even courier them out to you.
Just a thought.

Yea mate..iv brought a couple of boards from ink at the sup shed..he's a good dude and the fin exchange is a good idea..iv tried a few out and have been on a quad and thruster set up..I guess it comes down to personal preference and what your after. IV jus got the 8'6 fanatic..im leavinnthe fanatic fins on to see how it goes before changing anything. One thing I have done is moved the centre fin as far up the box as I can. IV only had a Cpl of surfs on it in average conditions but like it so far. Good luck with your suppin brother
