don't know anything about split paddles - do they come in 2 or 3 bits and do they have to be split apart for transport or do they push inside each other to shorten?
I will be getting 2 for traveling around Australia in a caravan
both 2 piece and 3 piece
I own 2, and split kayak paddles as well
less pieces best
they do not slide inside each other
although the parts move only slightly where they join (they have a push button insert) it is magnified by having a 2nd split
easy fix is to use bicycle tubing - roll it down over one part, roll it back up when together
also, if you fall off lots, you will be amazed at how much water gets in the paddle shaft, another negative
they are heavier than a one piece paddle, imo if you don't absolutely need to have a breakdown paddle, stick to one piece.
The lightest breakdown I have is a 2 part werner
If you have a caravan just get a one piece and strap it to the roof or something.
Caravans have heaps of space so I dont really understand why you want to compromise performance by getting a split paddle.
