Hi - I want to try out SUP windsurfing sometime in the future and have absolutely no idea at all about windsurfing. What do I need to get started and any advice on size of sail for me - 9ft 6 SUP. Does the sail just screw into the SUP? Thanks

The screw hole you are referring to is where you would put your mast base so that your sail stays in place. My advice would be to see if your local sailboard shop (do they still have those) might give you a lesson. That way you get an idea of what goes into setting up your sail and how the mechanics of it all work. SailSUP is great fun on a light day or to just muck around for sail handling skills.

All you will need is:

[1] Mast base (this connects to the screw hole on your SUP)

[2] Mast extension

[3] Mast

[4] Sail (Size 5.0m to 6.0m)

[5] Boom

Simple!

There are a few brands putting out relatively inexpensive complete windsurf rigs specifically for use on a SUP. I know Star Board have a couple of complete rigs for SUP use, I believe the lower price point one isn't all that much more than a good carbon paddle. North/Fanatic might have something also, I'm not really up to speed on what gear they have.

disclaimer: I am sponsored by Star Board for windsurfing.

Do all SUPS have the screw hole for a mast base fitting?

All fanatics, all silver starbies, all JPs and quite a few Naishs over 10'6" in wood construction have the inserts.
