Wanting a board to get fit on and if I have any potential to possibly do a few races.
At present I am 80kg and riding a SB 9.1 x 29 for the surf after moving from a simon anderson 11 x 30. I am no expert and feel I should go for something around 29 - 30 wide. At present considering the SB, Deep ocean and the fanatic. Are there any others I should look at....thanks

You'd be right about the weight limit to comfortably ride the 27.5" and 28" wide boards from Fanatic, Starboard and Naish. You should definitely give them a try.

Coreban make a 12'6 x 29 (in two different constructions).

I'm a bit bias but I've tried a few boards and this is what I ended up with. For price and being a custom Simon can make the board for you and your skill level. www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/STOKED-but-it-needs-a-name/

At the end of the day nothing beats demoing boards to find whats right for you.

Is there a 12'6" Dart coming from Coreban? The Alpha Race is very much a planing hull so I'd agree, not exactly a race winner in most situations. Apparently good for DW though.

Depends on what type of race...

Demo demo demo!!!

Plenty of options out there, both overseas production and locally made, that will be competitive with each other in a wide range of conditions. But different people will prefer the feel of different boards and it's most important to be comfortable on what you are riding.

Starboard, DC, Fanatic, Naish, Lahui Kai, JM/Surftech JM, Deep & C4 all have proven race results in the last 12 months (albeit the engine is much more important than the board) and are readily available in Australia.

Fanatic and Hobie 12'6 are both worth a look/demo. At 80kg the fanatic 27' wide would be the best fit. Around 90kg and over would suit the 30.5'wide fanatic - which is a great board. (check out the buy and sell on seas breeze!)
