Hey guys
I will have my vac pump sorted this weekend after a lot of running around getting all the bits
And should be ready to glass my 8"x27" soon aim going 2oz innegra +6 bottom - 2oz innegra +6+4oz patch on deck
I am hoping to glass bottom turn over (while resin is still wet) and glass top then place in bag and vacuum press the board and bake in hot box
I have glass plenty of boards but first time vacuum bagging and was wondering if this process is do able . Also I was apply layer of peel ply and maybe shade cloth ( or fine silt control fabric as shade cloth may texture the surface ) as breather but have been told I may need a layer of breathable release film on top of peel ply and under breather to stop to much resin being drawn
Can u pull off peel ply and breathers off once resin has completely hardened or better when resin has just hardened.
Problem is if u go and buy all these different films they nearly cost as much as the glass
Anyway any tips would be greatly appreciated
Thanks brad
Do one skin at a time.
Is it a sandwich construction?
Is it EPS core?
If not sandwich u need to be very careful with vac pressures or it will crush.
I would recomend using a peel ply, then perforated plastic film, then a light bleeder cloth, then a non-ferforated plastic film then your shade cloth (as ling as its a fine weave.
Id you use a perforated film between peel and vleeder cloth you will be able to remove the peel ply without damaging the board.
Spend the money on the perforated. if your careful you can re-use much of it.
for non-perforated you can use garbage bags cut up.
are you using epoxy?
Be careful using vac while in the hot box.
Hot foam is softer (especially EPS) and will crush easier.
Hot resin (before it gels) flows more and will bleed in to your bleeder cloth quicker, maybe pulling too much resin out of the laminate. resin:glass ratio of of 1:1 by weight is a good starting point.
Practice and very solid preparation will make it fall together.
Have veerything cut and stacked in the correct order for layup including having ur vac bag all pre made.
test your vac pump before your mix ur resin. ive been cough out before!
Just a few quick tip, but check swaylocks out as mentioned!
Put some thought into how you are going to prevent too much resin being drawn into the foam too....I'm assuming it's EPS without sandwich skin.
Research correct vac pressure.....getting it wrong could be disasterous.
Deffinately do one side at a time.
If you haven't got a stringer you might need a rocker table to maintain correct rocker.
Good luck!!
