Yesterday I popped into CanoesPlus in Kew to buy a Pelican cas for my iPhone and noticed that they new sell sup boards.. It's taken them a while to catch on..

Their boards looked nice (not quite your Naish or starboard but pretty cheap) and not a brand that I've seen before.. I took some pics.

I think we might see more kayak'ers and canoe'ers learning to standing up..

SUP ATX has been around a while, advertising on Facebook and elsewhere. Never heard of L'attitude.

Mick Di Betta / Lahui Kai has been selling the SUP ATX for about a year. They are great for river and lake cruising and I have ridden them in small surf. They are good fun and great entry level boards.

The l'attitudes look nicer than some brands you pay twice the price for. could be a good find DJ for friends etc just starting out. You really are a super slueth.

I didn't have a tape measure with me but they did look a bit narrow but for light people or kids that won't be such an issue.. It's also a good shop for anyone looking at buying a PFD.

With so many great boards listed on Seabreeze Buy & Sell at very affordable prices, I can't imagine recommending these knock-offs to friends regardless of how nice they look.

I would have no issues in recommending these boards for friends. They fill a market ie recreational small time users. I was at Currumbin Creek on Boxing Day and the place was full of families having fun in the water and heaps had cheaper non big brand name SUP's. Kids, mums and dogs were jumping all over them. No real need for a big name SUP.

If the friend just wanted a board to trash and didn't intend to develop skills and stick with the sport, then sure, one of these boards might fit the bill. But for anyone mildly serious just starting out, would you honestly recommend one of these instead of a second hand Naish Mana or Glide or a Starboard Drive? I wouldn't in all conscience. The name brand is going to be re-sellable once they get past the early days. These ones? Forget it.

I also think the purchase of these boards quite probably goes against the mantra of every other SUP recommendation, namely demo demo demo. So where and how are you going to demo these boards? I don't expect Canoes Plus is going to offer that service. Maybe Mick Di Betta does.

woody, some people wont get into sup like you and might only paddle once in a blue moon and keep a board at a shack or something. For this these types of boards will be fine so dont be so such a stck in the mud....

It's the giggle factor that we are after in SUP.
Seeing families on the water having fun is whats it about, lets not forget that.
If a cheaper board allows families to have a good time and some memories that last a lifetime, Nothing wrong with that.
We all know what brand you would rather them ride

You keep pushing price as the issue and I'm saying you can get a better name brand board for the same price. Just second hand. So why are we arguing that point? And it doesn't have to be one brand in particular. Although I feel the Naish Nalu 11'6" has always been the best first board. It was my first board and I loved it. I wouldn't recommend to buy it new anymore. But if one is going second hand, that's close enough to the best board for a family.
