What are your thoughts? Which boards have you owned?
We are talking about Down Wind Specialist Boards, and Open Ocean Boards...
(we all know the rockers required for down wind performance add push/drag in pure flat water conditions)

ok simon, you know i sold my sic to go with dale.

now the sic in 15 knts or so with a good wind swell behind- amazing.

too little wind, too much, short chop or period, back wash of headlands not so good.

when the big sic starts rocking back and forth and comes to a near stop its dam hard work to get going again.

again, mind blowing when conditions suit.

i would love to be able to have the sic in my lot, however when i weigh up the good and the bad i think a good 14'er wins out for me.

no doubt i will regret selling the sic on those great' sic' suited days.

simon punt the naish for a bullet, its a far better board- i've had both

cheers

I am going to disagree with Lacey The 17'4 bullet is the best down wind board on the market hands down!!!!! from 15 knots to crazy winds just look at what they use the board for in Hawaii 40 knots plus and they still love the board. You only have to look at the last race in Hawaii and ALL the top guys were on these boards and all these guys are sponsored of other companys but yet they still choose to rice the SIC 17'4. IMO if you want a board for DW and dont live in bay waters then get the 17'4 Bullet if you want to go cheap then get something like the Naish which is still a good board just not as good thats all!!!

Not sure how many days Bullet's aren't suited to. Recently took the big guy out for a couple of runs in the 8-12 knot range side by side the Ace 14 x 25 and came in smiling.
Normally would have the Ace out as first choice as it's access to any sort of bump is ridiculous but the Bullet although a little harder to get on a bump or run was almost unstoppable once going. On the rudder you just linked and linked meaning it pulled distance on the Ace pretty easily. Don't know many board that can do that in under 12 knots.
The Bullet is now my first choice for the Ocean whatever the wind.
Sam.

jacko on some days in the short chop it just doesn't go. its really hard to pick thou.

sam, yeah i've had some great light wind days on the board.

however guys, i was doing the distance training runs with mick, dale and alain through all sorts of conditions.20, 25 30 k distance etc. i personally didn't have the strenght to keep the board going in the crappy parts and then that killed me when the good parts came.

my decision is based on averages only and i'm going with 14'ers.

as i said in the right conditions its amazing.

are you guys still selling them

Still selling SIC for sure and as soon as our states are over the Bullet is all I'll paddle in the lead up to Maui. Can't wait.
What classes are on for the Xcel race? I suppose most folk will be on 14's as I think its a qualifying race for you lot.
Sam.

Hard to even view an S.I.C. board in sunny Victoria... I think I might contact the Maui boys about a Torquay franchise!
