Hi,

I am 50 yrs old, 90kg, 180cm. I paddle narabeen lake, and clontarf in the various squads. I am looking for a displacement bow 14 footer that will be fast on the flat, but can handle some chop. I am pretty new to the sport so 26ish wide. I have a wider fanatic falcon for rough water, but 80% of my paddling is flat water, so looking for a true flat water board which can handle a bit of chop. Not looking for a canoe type, rather a flat deck.

What do people recommend?

What ever you get make sure you demo it first.. so you don't get sucked into going too narrow.

This is important advice. You must DEMO. You won't be fast or have fun on a board that is too tippy for you.

You could go the flatdeck Edge as well in 26 wide but if you want at 90kg i think the Edge pro will suit a little better as it runs more volume and has a slightly wider tail allowing the bigger paddlers to really put the power down.
Both boards would suit and both are plenty stable enough. Sam at WSS has a lot of Edge pros coming so would be a good guy to talk to about it all.

Hi, there is a race I can try out. One thing that put me off a bit was that the sides, particularly up at the nose were very dimply and uneven. Is yours like that? My falcon has a very smooth Matt finish, whereas the jp has a glossy painted finish which is quite lumpy. When I say lumpy I mean the actual board under the paint is not smooth.
