G'day, Im new to sup and am riding a 12'x31"x4.5" mal style single fin board but am getting keen very quickly to upgrade to something faster, i feel quite stable on this board paddling through side swell and cross chop, feet close. My question is are race boards more or less stable by design then a surfboard style sup? I wouldnt be after anything super narrow, but is a 27" or 29" wide 12'6 board going to be significantly less stable then my 31" wide board?
Thanks
Clint

Hey Clint,
I could go on about primary and secondary stability but essentially if your looking at 27-29" wide boards you will be fine after an initial adjustment.
Obviously if your a heavier paddler or paddling primarily rough conditions you would lean towards the wider ones.

They are significantly tippier.. imo.

You are welcome to have a paddle on my 12'6''x30'' Naish Glide and see what you think.. It's both stable and pretty fast.

Where in Vic are you?
