Wanted to ask a question of you on a thread a few pages off the front page.

Since you've paddled so many of the Naish boards curious to ask...
Difference in board speed inbetween the Glide 12' touring and the 12'6" GS?
Been paddling a Nalu 10'10" in the local river and sometimes found it hard going against wind and tide.
Especially since I'm 92kgs and often take my 4 yr old son and sometimes my 11 yr old daughter for a spin as well on it.
So I changed to the 12' touring for more appropriate volume and better performance when conditions were a bit windy and paddling against tides.
Found it handled the extra weight of the kids better but stability of the Nalu was missed a little.
But I'm chasing something still faster through the water still...especially when paddling solo.
BTW tried paddling a 14' GX (I think - 26 & 1/4" wide) and it was a real challenge to me at my skill level and I want something which demands less of me as I'm paddling recreationally not with racing in mind.
So would the 12'6" be much faster through the water or would the difference be minimal?

Or would a 14 gs be the ticket?

Hi mate, ok I'm not DJ but I've paddled all three of those boards you mention, more than once. You'll find the 12'6 glide markedly quicker than the 12'. The 12' is designed as a stable tourer/cruiser, the 12'6 x30 was designed as a BoP style race board for bigger paddlers and it's fair to say their relative performance reflects that. Much as I like the the 12' for its allround versatility, the 12'6 is much slicker unit. Note also the 12'6 has an initial tippiness that the 12' doesn't have...could be a bit of a handful with a kid on board if you're thinking that way.
The 14 glide is primarily a downwind board that has decent flat water capability but the rockered nose has a little windage so upwind could be a bit less tractable than the 12'6. IMO the 12'6 x 30 is more stable than the 14.

Hi Pete.. Stu is right IMO the 12'6" Glide and would be my choice.. I love mine.. The new 12' Glide touring board might be a better family/fun board that you can play on small waves and use on a lake and river but I think the 12'6" Glide can do all that as well being a better race/downwinder board.. I think you will find the difference quite noticeable.. The 14' Glide is also a great board but not something you can paddle with kids on board.. You will find the 12'6" Glide very, very thick and boxy so that should help heaps paddling two up.. It paddles into the wind better than most boards and is very fast for a board so wide.

As do I.

For a while now, I've been looking for a used glide 14 as my first board. I finally gave up waiting and picked up an almost new 12'6 that came along last week. I'm not a decent enough paddler (yet) to really tell the difference between the two boards and maybe one day a 14 will come my way but having read the responses from DJ and HC, I'm now really happy it worked out this way.

After taking a few different boards for a spin in the trying windy conditions we've been having lately I've found a good answer.
Paddled a Naish 14' (26 &1/4) and a 12'6" (28") and found them not what I was looking for as a combo of glide and stability for my size and skill set.
Ended up paddling the carbon 12'6" and found it had a good combination of speed and stability.
A white paint job on the bottom and rails has been done to negate the heat issue of black carbon fibre and Qld summer sun.

Did you try the white 12'6 fanatic? that would also fit the bill

The white fanatic is not on the racks.
May be laybyed or sold.
The black Sabre now with white hull/rails is doing the job.

In the link to used boards at Ocean addicts I posted above it's the 9th board down.
12'6" Sabre (black carbon fibre).
Doesn't say Jimmy Lewis anywhere on it.
Had Surfboard warehouse stickers on it but the Sabre decal is in the lam.
Makes me think it's a No 19 without the wontons (Chinese made).
