I'm brand new to SUP - I've tried out a few boards, and now I am looking to purchase my first (this hiring thing is getting too much)! Thing is, reading the relevant posts on here, and all the information out on the web (not to mention talking to a few people!) I am utterly confused about where to go from here.

I am a fit individual, with great core strength - however no surfing background. I am 63kg and 5'5, I am looking to paddle mainly for fitness and fun on flat water and once I have more confidence move into small swell.

I have a total budget of around $1000, and I'm after something that I can easily carry around and lift onto my car (Subaru). I would consider a second hand/demo board, and would prefer something with a soft grip deck.

So...my issue/s:
*What would you recommend in terms of board size?
*What about the paddle - I'm not keen on adjustable ones?
*Are there brands I need to stay away from? Or ones that are a must?
*Is it best to stay away from the BCF/Anaconda type boards?
*Apart from on here any suggestions on where to look for second hand/demos?
*Fiberglass? Other??

I would appreciate anything you can contribute (not asking for much huh!).
