Picked up a Fanatic Allwave 8' 10" today and took it for a run on flat water.
This is a second board which my parter will use in flat water and I plan to give it a run in small waves with a paddle and a sail.
For the record I'm 90kg and a relatively inexperienced SUPer.
I found the board to be suprisingly good in flat water. It tracked reasonably well with the stock fin and even better with a bigger centre fin. The board was nice and stable, no more challenging than the Fanatic Fly 10' I have. In fact it may even be more stable side to side than the Fly.
The other big surprise was that the glide was quite nice when you find the right balance point. The volume in the back is lower which made it agile in the turns (and with my weight the tail was just level with the water line).
The other good feature was the price at an RRP of $1499 I though it to be good value. I was originally considering the SB WP 8' 10" which was $300 more.
Also picked up a new Naish adjustable padle to replace the previous alloy adjustable. My partner loved it, purely for the weight difference.
Some pics below next to Fly.
Hey Waiting4wind,
It was the Allwave that hooked me on the world of SUP properly. Couldn't believe how easy it was and how much fun I had as a beginner to surf paddling.
I weigh the same as you and went with the 9' 2". Should be here any day now ..... ![]()

They are a nice looking board. It says on the fanatic website that they have a mast insert.... Is it there, and how many positions?
Cheers

It definitely has a mast insert. If you look at the pic it's just in front of the handle.
Quote from the Fanatic website " Mastfoot insert for possible windsurfing (all 4 sizes)"
Thats the problem with being in Perth. You have to Wait Awhile for your toys. I'm hoping ours turn up tomorrow ![]()

The Allwave looks great. Nice price too.
I have the 10' Fly, which is great with a sail on it in the (smaller) waves or on flat water in light winds, but as a SUP in the surf it is slow to turn. Cut-backs are just about impossible for me. Guess that's because of its size/dimensions. Good on flat water for a paddle though.
Might have a look at the Allwave as summer approaches. ![]()
We finally got a hold of some stock, albeit in small quantities ...... for now
Race boards and bulk of stock in another week.
Very excited ![]()

Got my stock Allwaves and Fly SUPs. Look as good as I remember from the pre-production and definitely agree with the lighter weight. 8'10" Allwave is a ripper, Think I should have ordered more...![]()
I tried a 9'2 All Wave this morning in calm flat water. I was very happy to see how well it tracks even with the stock fins. Getting back on the tail and spinning it around was real easy with the extra width and volume. I was able to walk up and down the board, spin on it as if I was tacking while windsurfing and do some yoga, too.
I'm currently using a 2011 Fanatic Fly 9'6 x 30" for both SUP Surf and windsurfing.
Now I just need to decide if I should get the 9'2 or order a 8'10 All Wave.
My 9'6 is 131L
The 9'2 All wave is 160L
The 8'10 All wave is 146L
I'm thinking I need to wait and get a 8'10 because it's narrower and closer to the volume of my current board.
I'm 81 KG, 1.67m, experienced SUPer and brand new windsurfer.
I tried the 9'2 today in small surf about 2' and it sure was different than I expected. I could have sworn I was on a 10'6-11' SUP. Lots of paddling to get it on the wave and really had to step up to make it drop in. Once on the wave it required more walking around and moving to get it going. It was fun but strange.
Getting out past the waves and turning to get off the wave was very easy. I could see how this SUP would be great with a bigger sail for me. Another local paddler likes the short wide boards and he was doing great with it. So it probably takes a little getting used to.
Compared to my current 9'6 x30 (2011 Fanatic), I'm not sure that the All Wave model is quick enough down the line for me. I asked the owner for another demo on Monday when the waves will be about double the size 4'ish and he said I could put a sail and take it windsurfing.
I can tell this board will do great for me to continue to learn windsurfing since my current 9'6 gets very squirly when I use a bigger sail. But I also want to be able to SUP surf on non-windy days, too.
I think an 8'10 may be even slower to drop down the wave or take more paddle strokes to get on.
My other option is to go up to a Fanatic Fly 10' primarily for windsurfing and wave sailing. This is such a great post to hear from someone who has them both!
Ofcourse I could just stick with my current 9'6" til I get better and I'm sure there will be a Pro Wave model in my future.
Hi Onepump,
No stress, the mast base insert doesn't go into the interior of the board. It's a blind insert. There is no vent plug on the Allwaves. The Raceboards have the vent plugs
