Hi,
Just looking at getting my first SUP to cruise around the rivers and take out into the surf on small days.
I'm only light at 60kg and wanted som advice on a first board.
Ideally my wife who is around 75kg would want to be able to ride is occasionally on the flat.
I was looking at the range of boards from Roar industries and Sideways surf on the gold coast that are around the $1200 mark which included paddles as well (SupATX etc)
I also found this board on eBay
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-SUP-STAND-UP-PADDLE-BOARD-106-/200577435559?pt=AU_Sport_Surfing&hash=item2eb358c7a7#ht_5055wt_922
Which looks ok aswell.
What sizes should I be looking at and which manufacturers would you recommend, taking into account a budget of no more that $1,500 Inc paddle and cover?
Thanks
If I was you I would also have a look at Greenline Paddle Surf in mermaid beach and then demo a few boards from both Greenline and Roar and decide what you like and what suits your budget and buy from either of them. They are the experts in all things sup on the Gold Coast and will give you the best product at the best possible price and both will give you exceptional back up service and advice. Boards on ebay may be ok so long as they are recognized brands from genuine private sellers and you should always sight the board in person before making a bid - and if you can't then do not bid and do not buy IMO.
Tyelino,
I agree with Billboard. However, this board seems to look OK. But you never get a genuine look until you see it in person....
However, you are a fair dinkum lightweight at 60kg, punching outside your weight division with a 75kg wife !! ![]()

Do your mates drink you under the table!? Sorry, I digress... ![]()
Go and see the guys in the shops... But if your budget is super tight, and you haven't surfed much in the past, you will probably enjoy that board as a good intro. Even at 10'6, it would appear too big for you, but if you are new to surfing and SUP, maybe 10'6 is a reasonable starting point for you both.
10'6 will be OK for her in the flats too.
But you should go through the effort of a few demo boards, and if you are new to it, demo in the flat water, not surf. Maybe try and do some training session at Currumbin too. (?)
I picked up one of these boards in 11' from Retroboards. It came as a package and has been great. Used it for flatwater and v. small surf at Nightcliff in Darwin and a bit bigger at Point Roadnight at Anglesea.
Very happy with it.
