I've been thinking of playing around with a new fin set up on my jp surf pro. been finding myself getting more and more into bigger faster surf and am looking for some ideas on new fins, someone lent me a centre fin with way less sweep than mine and I really like the way it loosened up the board. Any ideas or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
I think fins are very personal and weight depending.
In general I prever softer flexi quad fins in small soft waves (we normally have) from K4 and a bit smaller but stiffer Quad fins in bigger/faster waves.
In scarry big waves I take slightly bigger stiff tri fins for more security (Large frontfins and a 15cm K4 flex centrefin.
Boards: Naish Hokua 9.0+Starboard Pro9.0 , i,m 90kg+ad often hooded wetsuit and boots.
With these boards I prever the PC7 fins over most other sets I tried..but again, imo fins are very personal alike what taste of milkshake you like.
I have a JP 8'10 & 8'6 pro surf, this Jackson Close thruster set from Shapers fins have heaps of drive and hold.

Just saying but the proof is in the pudding.

So true.
I think you should try to build a quiver of fins, choosing quite different style of fins, to get a feeling of what you like or not.
Note that fins are easy to buy used (postage is simple), and try to borrow some from friends or shops for testing.
Personally, I found I like:
- wide base for grip at low speeds (paddling, take off) and a small tip for control at high speed: C-Drives for instance, TC aqualine, ....
- foiled on both sides (water flows do not like flat foils) such as the FCS nexus (or plenty others, in FCS, all the fins with the "infinity" logo)
I suggest you try C-Drives. You may become hooked like me to the "safety" feeling they provide, or hate the added grip... find out by trying them...

We all have own have preferences but if you don't want to buy 5 different sets to find out whats right the Jackson Close full set will give all the combo's you need , they work ![]()
I agree with you colas - C Drive fins are awesome. I have a set of med quads and they made a big difference!
I also have the Jackson Close thruster set in my 8'6 JP Pro Surf, I tried lots of fins, found these to be the best for me!

Me too. Bigger faster surf + c-drives = speed, drive and control. You'll see......
