so what do folks out there advise for a 12 6 SUP that is ideal for ocean paddling and a bit of downwinding? I like to be able to surf them on small waves too. I am about 200 pounds fully wet suited out and about 6 foot tall. Few years SUP surfing experience. Thanks
the dc/nsp 12'6" coco ticks all those boxes, more than happy with mine

Think I will be looking at a M12 6, Naish Glide 12 6 or Falcon 12 6. Prefer the shape of the Jimmy Lewis as it will surf better than the others but might not be the most stable out of them......I guess.
Best advice anyone can give you is to get to your local shops and demo, demo, demo, demo. 
No demos for a few hundred miles so as usual I buy on feedback and what looks right. Not the best way but that's the breaks.
I still think the 12'6 falcon is the best Dw board around when it comes to easy downwinding. Heaps of volume. Doesn't surf as well as the dc boards but picks up runs better than anything else

I agree.. But at 200 lbs a board that's 30" wide like the 12'6" Glide would also be a good choice.
I've taken on a few downwinders and paddled it in open ocean and it goes great..

RJK - just wondering what your weight is and why you opted for the 12 6 rather than the 14ft? Have you tried other similar boards to the Falcon? Also - great if you could tell me the weight of it (HRS version?) as Fanatic never put that on their sites.
DJ - take it you haven't used the Glide in bigger downwinding conditions? Doubt I ever will but I reckon that nose would give a few problems on the bigger stuff....doesn't look like much rocker there?

I'm 92kg, I do prefer downwinding 14s in most of our conditions and currently ride 14s too. At one stage the 126 falcon was my only board. Not sure about the weight sorry. As for similar boards is there one in particular your talking about? There aren't in my opinion any boards close to the 126 falcon design. The old starby race would be closest but still nothing the same. Great board also by the way.
I may have got round my 14 ft storage dilemma so now looking at both sizes......is there a world of difference between the two sizes of Falcon when it comes to speed, stability etc in chop? The only other board I am seriously considering now is the M14 . Have you used both RJK?

I've never used or seen the JL m14. I've used both falcons in the 27 width. The 14 like all 14s maintains glide for longer when your on a run whereas the 126 slows allot sooner. 126 boards can be faster in some conditions where the chop is close together, the 14s don't seem to fit in as easily as the 12s. Given they are the same board minus the extra tail piece stability isn't too much different

Yet to hear a bad word said about them. Not as fast as some of the other boards mentioned here on the flats....until you get it doing what it was built for so they say.

The 2014 Glide 14' hasn't got much rocker but it not as bad as you'd think - you can step a fair way back on the board to get the nose out and still keep a lot of speed. I reckon it downwinds a lot better than the 2013 Glide in my view. I take mine surfing quite a bit - it's a pretty versatile board. I'm 6'1 and 100kg.

Thanks - you can never, ever ever have enough speed in my book, but yes it is a fast board and as you point out - great for making flat sections (and getting longer runners). I've had some catastrophic nose dives on it in larger waves. Those waves are 2' maybe 3' at the most. The gopro distorts things - small waves look big, but then you get on a big one and it looks small - go figure. This next clip is on a much bigger wave, but doesn't look it at all.
). It used to amaze me that it was possible to bury the nose of my 2013 glide, given the rocker and volume of the board. I find that I bury the nose on the 2014 glide about the same amount, but it's a lot more forgiving. If you're lighter or fitter than me, then I think there's a lot of choices out there and maybe a shorter version is a better choice. BTW I'm not trying to pimp the Naish boards. I've ridden the DC/NSP coco - which is also very nice and would probably have been my first pick if the price was right.

I decided to go with my first choice and put a deposit down on a Jimmy Lewis M14. Reckon it will be ideal for what I am after....

I love that board (I have the 14). It's just so inherently stable, sensible and surfy. Did you say you have a Naish Nalu 11'4? The Jimmy Lewis M-14 (and I guess M12) is very very similar in a more downwind shape. If you like your 11'4 you'll love the Jimmy Lewis.
I didn't chime in on the Jimmy Lewis coz I obviously have no idea what the smaller version is like with someone heavier. But if I understand correctly that you have the Naish 11'4, which is low volume and even under my 160Lbs rides low in the water, you'll be fine on the Jimmy Lewis. It has much more volume than it looks like. That board hides the amount of volume it has.
If you're going for the 14 and found a place to store it than even better.

Yes, I have found a way to fit it in now so the 14 it is.....more suited to me. Will give a report .....
