For some reason, manufacturers do not publish the weights of boards. Generally they do publish the volumes though.

Below are some weights of various constructions.

I have not weighed these boards myself. I have found these weights that board testers have published on the internet (so I can't vouch for the data quality). The volumes are from the manufacturers. I have calculated the densities where possible, so that weights of other boards in the same construction can be estimated.

Hope to add more boards later on, and I hope this helps people in their board shopping.

If you have other weight data, feel free to send it to me.

How do you know the weights are accurate if not measured on a calibrated scale? Some errors could be unfair to some measurements?

Good idea.
You want also to add if the weight was taken with or without pad & fins.
I always weight mine with pad and without fins, this is the measure that can be reproduced easily. Be careful to weight the board really dry (a wet pad weight quite more than a dry one)

A good idea would be to have actual weight measured by customers compared to the manufacturer weight.

Here is my contribution:

Some manufacturers that publish their weights are:

Gong: 2010 sandwich PVC line: http://www.gongsup.com/-All-SUP-Range-.html
I found their weight are accurate, boards are in fact often lighter than specified. For instance my electric 9'11" weighted 9kg, Nanogene 7'7" 8kg ("heavy" as straps inserts add more than 1kg apparently to total weight, but not to swing weight)

Gong 2011 bamboo "sandwich" (thin sandwich with wood stringer): www.gongsup.com/-GONG-2011-SUP-Bamby-.html I do not own one, but reports from people having them seem to indicate that the indicated weights are correct

Drops: www.gongsup.com/-Drops-Moulded-SUP-.html PVC Sandwich Seems accurate: my Vulcan weighted 8.9kg (w/o fins like all my measuraments)
My 7'10" weights 7.3kg (specs in www.gongsup.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1825 ). Note that they all have a mastfoot that contribute ~0.7kg to total weight, but not to swing weight.

Nah Skwell: nahskwell.blogspot.com/ the weights seem accurate: my 9'6" weighted 10kg, and reports from other users seem to indicate they are never heavier than the listed weight.

I have the 2010 model of the Gerry Lopez 8'10 full carbon by Riviera Paddlesup www.rivierapaddlesurf.com/collections/all/products/gerry-lopez-810-carbon-stand-up-paddle-board (a bit wider at nose and tail than the 2011 model). It weighted 7.6kg without pad nor fins, 8.2kg with OAM pad without fins

PT Woody - you might be right - i took that weight from this review:

Colas, I agree with you, but unfortunately, there is so little info available on weight of SUP boards that it is hard to have such uniform standards. Perhaps as SUP board buyers, we should be conveying feedback to SUP board manufacturers that we'd like standardised weight data in their catalogues etc.

DJ, sad to hear you have lost weight - as my grandfather would say: "what's the matter with you? Aren't you eating?" :-)

It's a great idea.. but.. My point was that can we trust what people say what their boards weight because even if they are telling the truth how do we know their bathroom scales are accurate?.. I'm pretty sure ours aren't.

Hey DJ,

Great to meet you today at Black Rock.

I agree - perhaps we can arrange a weigh in day where someone brings along a trusty scale.

I still don't understand why manufacturers don't provide weights of the boards they sell... perhaps they don't trust their competitors to be honest?

Or maybe they don't trust that their weights are consistent?

Good to meet you to today..

The finished weight could vary by a kilo or so due to the amount of filler and paint needed to get a commercial quality finish. Paint can be really heavy.

I would really like to know how heavy boards are but I don't care about a specific number. I would never choose a board because it was 500 grams lighter than another.

It's more about how easy it is to manage in the board rack, onto the roof of the car, and whether I can carry it a reasonable distance to the beach.

That's mainly why I'm interested in knowing the weights too.

This pic appeared on surfingsports.com which is a SUP retailer in Santa Barbara CA. It shows the Surf Race weighing in at 20lb, which is just a shade over 9kg. This means it is within half a kilo of the hand crafted Fanatic, which is an unrealistic weight relative to the eventual production boards.
