New to SUP & starting to venture into the surf....

I have a 9'2 Tropical Blends board (the heavy-ish bamboo ones).

I weigh around 52kg and am finding the board kinda heavy to turn. I really have to throw my weight around to manouvre it, and have to stand waaay back on the board to stop it spearing in when I try to catch anything.

Should I:

a) Suck it up, keep practicing & learn to work the board (noting that I like the size & the TB carrying system is awesome). Any other small people that go ok on these type of boards? Am I just being a whining newb?

b) Get a lighter board (recommendations welcome- prefer something around the same size)

Thanks : )

It also sounds like the board has too much tail width, and maybe not enough rocker for you. Try to demo one with a narrower (and maybe thinner) tail and/or more rocker.

Also, try to move your fin forward on the board.

A lighter board will be more manoeuverable for sure, but in my opinion, the board shape is more important than the weight.

Righto, I've got a bit of room to move in the fin, so I'll give that a shot until I can demo something new.

Thanks for your help : )

Yep moving fin forward and possible smaller back fin will make board even looser, also dont forget to really dig that paddle in when turning and also try to move your back foot over towards the rail just before you iniciate the turn.
Good luck.
