Beginner SUP advice needed
« on: March 16, 2011, 06:35:26 PM »
Hi,
I'm looking at getting into SUPing and am currently going through the process of choosing a board
I haven't surfed before but generally have reasonable balance and skills at other water sports. I would like a board which can be used on flat water and small waves. I have young kids as well who would like to ride with me on the flat water, so I guess I need a board with good stability, yet at the same time is suitable for a beginner in the surf.
I weigh about 70kg's and am currently considering the Startboard Cruiser or Big Easy as well as the Coreban Cruiser but am open to other suggestions? Hobie?
However a recent visit to a starboard dealer had them recommending either the drive or wide point.
I am located in Melbourne, so if anyone could recommend any starboard dealers that would also be handy.
I would appreciate any advice,
Thanks
from memory rps in elwood for starboards.
if kids are coming on board, then the bigger the better.... also for kids consider a board that has a grip from nose to tail,, and rail save tape to stop the paddle chipping the board.
if available try a demo board.
it's really easy with the correct gear, just get a few simple guidlines and you'll be supping in no time.
DO IT, you'll love it and so will your kids. ![]()
Comes down to skill and how quick you want to go in the surf ide say both the drive and the wide point are good choices ,Have used both with me and my son on flat water im 72KG hes 35KGS but if you want the surf to be much easeir go the whoper 10/34 much more stable when starting off but still fun on waves
Thanks for the info,
I reckon 75-80% of the time I would be cruising the bay, the rest of the time would be on small waves.
Hey Sako,
If you head to Half Moon Bay this morning, you'll be able to demo a few boards after the final of our race series is completed. I have a selection of starboard, fanatic and naish on board.
Hope to see you there.
Value for money and for your needs go the sup atx
I take my son and dog out on the 12fter and have boughy 2 for the surf club
you cant go wrong ![]()
