Has anyone shaped their own board before and how hard was it? I'm thinking New Years resolution!
Cheers
I have built a couple of stand ups now, I got a lot of information off a website called surfer steve ( just google it ). I've done 6 boards now 18', 11'6, 10', 8'11, 8'9, 8'1. My last board 8'9 I got the foam machined definetly easier and a hell of a lot less messy, but depends whether you want the full experience. PM me if you want any information or help.

Hey Clarky,
downloaded the free version of AKU, been playing around with it over the last couple of days. Thanks for the advice and offer. See you in the waves
I've made a traditional fish surfboard from EPS and epoxy and I'd have to say it wasn't too hard.
A lot depends on your expectations.
Shaping the EPS was fun and pretty easy. I'm not a pro and not in a hurry so I shaped the rails just with a sanding block. Took about 4 hours at a leasurly pace.
Glassing with epoxy isn't too stressfull as it takes it's time to cure.
Sandy was the worst. Due to being an inexperienced glasser there was a bit to much excess to sand off. So the final product was no way up to standards visually when up close but it goes great and building it was a very enjoyable experience.
Building an SUP shouldn't be much harder just the size difference may make it a bit difficult.
I would suggest go with EPS and Epoxy for light weight and ease of construction once you have your head around it. My fish was 5'11" x 22" with large wooden keel fins and 6ounce glass and turned out lighter than my shortboard.
Biggest tip: Spend a good few months researching on www.swaylocks.com. you will find all the info you need there about hot wire cutters, laying glass, epoxy curing, the works.
Cheers,
