I was amazed to see my mate break his all wave in half. I could not get over the how clean the break was.
First Allwave I have seen broken. I was out on my pro wave but I was not tempted to take any late drops as I have had a few cuts and bruises on this beach before.
Jaysus!
What break, and how big was the surf?
Im still recovering from some meaty floggings at Muriwai this morning, copped a huge closeout set on the head as well as a few trips over the falls on some hollow ones, luckily my 9'6 Allwave is still in one piece
There were some big ones coming through , overhead I guess. I Lost my board when my 10mm balin leggy got ripped off my ankle. I think it was just unlucky re the breakage. It was a real pick you wave day or get wasted in the washer.
A wider board is probably more liable to snap.......but looking at the cross section an old fashioned surfer might say "it needs a central stringer to stop it snapping?"
That sucks! Hopefully your session was almost over. I've broken a few surfboards and was pissed. I could imagine how you must feel after an expensive sup failure. But there is a bright side to it. At least a new board is in the future.
Wow!.... that's something I was never able to do to any of my Allwaves..... I hope he has a good story to go with it![]()
It must have been pretty crunchy..... that's a pretty hefty penalty for a missed step. Board shopping is pretty fun... that's some consolation.
I'd have it repaired, or at least do it myself.... it will be a good "buddy board" to keep around the house.
That board has had a hard life.... It looks like it was time for an upgrade anyway
The AllWave hrs is one of the toughest boards on the market, for it to break like that is very hard to do!
I have a exocet fish and a prowave. This wasn't my board but a mates. I have heard of break being repaired but there was also a big chunk of glass broken off and other cracks that would be triicky to fix. Time for a new one
I take it the site ain't sponsored by Fanatic? When a broken Naish appeared it was taken off VERY quickly. However, the poster did have a go at the seller although names were not used. Just saying![]()
My 9'6 2013 snapped yesterday totally gutted.....
Calling the shop tomorrow to see what the process is.....
Mate of mine just did the same thing to his 8'10" Prowave in 2ft mush. It looked like he may have inadvertently delaminated the board when strapping onto the roof racks as I noticed some little bumps prior to getting into the water. An hour later it was cracked rail to rail. The board also suffered from quite a bit a deck delam shortly after he got it (second hand).
Something to be said about going for a quiet flat water paddle. Not as exciting but less chance of breaking your board in half ;-)
That reminds me to check my board after it got washed to shore while i was a swimming after it. There were some big sets coming through yesterday.
I wonder how much a small ding in the rails would effect the strength of the board. I read somewhere (maybe on this forum) that the rails contribute most of the strength to a board. Sort of makes sense i guess.
All boards break, but some more easily than others.
Attempting to warranty/return a board after you break it in the surf is like trying to warranty a car after crashing it into a wall.

Well said. I have snapped heaps of surfboards in like 1ft surf. Wave size and conditions are irrelevant, any board in the wrong position will snap, and possibly more likely to crease in small surf due to the shallow water.
