10'0-10'6 x 30" x 4.0"-4.5" thick is a great all round lenghth and width to start with. You'll find it very stable even if there's a lil bump on the water and able to catch wave's as you advance. All brand's have this size in there range. As it's your first SUP, I'd recommend going 2nd hand or paying know more then a K, because you will damage it. You can find great 2nd hand & new package deals(include's paddle & leash & sometime's board bag) on seabreeze. The shorter and narrower you go, the less stable it will be... Otherwise, the web is your oyster...

Happy hunting & welcome to the sport

Starboard Drive is good board too start out on. It was my first board, nice and stable and surf quite well too.
I think it may be there most popular all rounder type board too date, and have a great resale value when you want to sell it too upgrade to another board.

Hi Renee11,
I recently bought a 10' naish mana 2010 .awsome board
i tested a few before buying ,imo this board does it all well eg;flat paddle ,surf & great stabilaty for learners but still peforms well in surf.
As wazupra said second hand is good option for first board .When i have the coin saved im also going to invest in smaller board just for the waves .
welcome to the addiction of water sports. calbs

I reckon the naish mana 9.5 or 10 or a fanatic allwave 9.6 are the go. Both are as stable as they come and both surf really easily and well. The allwave edges the mana out imo as a slightly looser board.
