The brand called 71. Sold at mainpeak. Looks ok, just wondering if anyone tried them as they are a fair bit cheaper than some of the usual brands.
Never paddled one but know a few that have and have heard that they are quite heavy.
Cheap and cheerful and that is how they are sold. They are not sold under the pretence that they are high performance rather targeted at getting people on the water who may not want to shell out the initial $2000 set up fee.
Given this the construction represents what you pay for.
So it depends on what you are looking for; high performance (better options out there) or cheap and cheerful to get you on the water (the way to go)
Lat years models were a bit heavy with a pretty budget construction.
This years models have had a full redesign and have moved from EPS to IXPS foam (which is lighter and stiffer and doesn't absorb water to the same extent as EPS) and a higher spec layup including a 0.6mm layer of bamboo for some extra stiffness in the deck and has dropped the weight +20%, also do a full Carbon 14' racer which is lighter than last years 12'6.
Still don't expect the out and out wave performance of the higher end brands as these have been designed to be stable entry+ level boards to get people on the water for a reasonable outlay.
BTW as you may have guessed, I am from the company.
Yeah, I was just going by their construction, and thinking how bad can they be ?? And was hoping that someone who has used starboards, naish's etc. could do a comparison. As they certainly come in cheap. Ashame they don't come with a deck grip though as another 150-200 needs to be factored in
Deck grip should be included, if not only $99, they may have run out as deck grips were running late from the factory but should have some more now.
if your after good construction try a JL... i think courts at sup surf australia has a few left at bargain basement run out prices.....
extra high density foam and glass on both sides helps to stop snappage - like you see on some 'other' boards
