I've been SUPing for about a year now on an NSP 11' It's now time to move on to something that turns faster but don't want to lose any stability. The NSP is ok in flatwater but a bit like an ocean liner to turn in the surf.I do about 50-50 flatwater to surf but faster turning in the surf is what matters the most. I;m about 80kgs & 5'11' Thinking of a Starboard whopper or Naish Mana 10' any ideas? thanks Terry
Something like the Naish 10' x 32" Mana or the Starboard 10'5" x 32" WidePoint would be great boards.. can you demo?
I love my beautiful bamboo Mana.. www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/Beautiful-bamboo/?SearchTerms=beautiful,bamboo

definitely demo the 10 & 9.5 mana.
I am 100kg 6'2" and borrowed a 11 NSP for 3 months to learn on ended up buying a 10 MANA 3 weeks ago after demoing boards, i would have liked the 9.5 it turned much easier but need more time on the water with my weight maybe next year.
but you can't go wrong with either. IMO the 10 MANA is more stable in the chop than the 11NSP with it's extra width.![]()
I got my first SUP 2 weeks ago I got the 9.5" mana I have done 5 hours in the bay only falling off onces now have moved on to the surf .Fell in trying to get on the board a lot of falling in but i know that board is the right sizes far me just time on the water.I am 84 kg 6 ft. So i say go the 9,5"
I too have an 11" NSP and I can fully understand what you are saying about the ocean liner bit.
I'm 90kg.
After trying many, many boards in the last few weeks (starboard demo and the roar demo day), my picks for 50/50 usage would be: the starboard wide point 10'5 x 32 and the new Surftech Laguna Bay 10'2 X ??.
The laguna bay surftec model felt nice to paddle on and the deck pad felt really comfy. I didn't surf it but I'm sure it would be way better than the NSP.
The naish mana 9'5 AST (or 9' for your weight)also could be a good choice. Not top of my list, it doesn't track as straight as the others when paddling in a straight line, but for the cost saving, I'm sure that my paddling technique would adapt.
The starboard demo van is going to be at the Noosa festival of surfing in early march. Wait till then if you can so you can try out all of their new range. I'll see you there.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm going to demo a few from the shop in the junction so i'll let you know how i go.
Hey Terry
have you tried the nsp with smaller fins, i have a 10 6 and put a 6 1/2 cutaway centre fin in mine and it was heaps better in the surf
Without my knowledge of it, a smaller centre fin was put on my nsp but i'm not sure when(thanks to some well meaning but VERY unhelpful people...yes you know who you are) This makes it a little bit easier to surf but still turns like a barge. Waiting for the holiday crowds to go home so i can demo some other boards tho!!
