Hi

I need an advice. Last Week I bought a brand new sideways 10'6(I couldn't afford a big brand).
I used it for one hour in a lake and after that I found at least 12 marks of the paddle in the side of the board and 2 big holes and in most of them there is water inside.
I've been renting boards for the past year(jp, naish starboard) and never had any problem.
I can assume that the quality of the board is really bad, but more that 12 digs(or holes) in less than 2 hours in a lake seem very strange.
If this is for the quality I can not sue the board any more, because at some point I will hit it again with the paddle(by accident).

I've sent an email to sideways, but maybe someone had the same experience and can give me an advice.

I was really hard to get the money for a board and now I am feeling frustrated because I can not use the board and I;ve lost the money.

Cheers
Nico

Hi Chrispy

You are right I should wait for an answer(I sent them an email).
I am pretty sure that the problem is not my paddling.

I will let you know when they answer my request.

I believe you are always better off buying a second hand reputable brand than a new el cheapo brand at around the same price.

I could't find anything and in the shop they told me that is the same quality but not branded.
I made a mistake and now I am paying for that.

I hope that I will get an answer from the company...

Have you taped the paddle - just electrical tape around the edge - and rail taped the board?
When I bought mine (as a beginner) Warwick at RPS wouldn't let me out of the shop without doing it.

That's bull****.

Even if it is made in the same factory as quality boards does not mean they are made with the same skilled workers, quality materials, processes.

What you describe is symptomatic of boards that are sanded too much on the rails by unskilled workers in a hurry, removing all the glass.

My best advice if the shop has no solution would be to sand the rails to remove the paint and apply 5-6 layers of glass tissue with some epoxy resin.
Otherwise, try to get either a refund or a new one as replacement and resell it immediately as new. And never use this shop again.

Note that this can happen on 2nd hand reputable brands also. One guy last month bought a board to discover it was actually broken in half but not properly repaired, just some epoxy paste to fill the gaps and painted over...

I'll send you a picture tomorrow of the taped paddle - I have now done my own. I think applying the rail tape without bubbles may be a bit mote tricky, but least the shop could do for you.

We have a saying in the boating world "The poor man always pays the most" that's means buy a cheap part then it breaks and then you pay full price for the genuine part. Most of the top brands now have budget models which really aren't that much dearer than the Chinese rubbish that is floating around.

Re your board don't send an email go back to the shop with your board and talk to them face to face. They are not a small shop and are Australia wide , hopefully you will be able to work something out.

Thanks Guys

I have talked to them and they told me that my board is not a Sideways board.
I will talk with the shop to see what happened.

Sideways was really kind and worried about my issue.

I will let you know the end of the story

Finally the shop will take the board back and give a full credit to buy another one
I have now this options

Bic Ace Tech 11???4
SupLove Challenger
SupLove 10??? Odyssey
SupLove 10??? 6 Escape

They are expensive for me but I'll see what I can do.

Thats a great outcome , Bic have been around for century's and Sup love are tuff as nails and is an Australian based company (boards made overseas) you can't go wrong with either one.

P.S Don't buy a cheap paddle either

And don't forget - RAIL TAPE and tape your paddle. Do a search for DJ's advice on taping paddle.

No ! Get the shop who sold you the board to do it. They should have advised you to do it anyway considering the
trouble you have had. It takes a bit of skill and experience to apply rail tape.
