Hi
I'm a relatively new to SUPing in the surf. We had a old NSP 11' on our boat which I paddled on flat water alot. I'm around 90kg and a short boarder.
Would I be better with the 2012 Fanatic Allwave 8'10" or 9'2" in the surf, mainly beach break where we live on Sunniecoast.

At your weight the 8'10" is the biggest you'd want to go dependant on ability.

You know there's a virtually new (used) one at Ocean Addicts?
I went in to check it out as saw the ad for a 9'6" but when I got there it was a 9'2"

If you are on the Sunnie Coast, see the guys at Ocean Addicts. They are great for advice and they are having a sale on their second hand boards. They will probably do you a decent deal on a newie too. I have no ties to them, but they were great to deal with for my board and paddle. They are big on the Fanatics ... New 2013 shipment coming soon, I think.

You know I have surfed for 40 years weigh around 85kg and surf a 9'6" Allwave and do OK considering it should be used by a 120kg guy?.Im also 6'4" tall which does put my center of gravety alot higher then a 5'6" fellow and find the extra stability of the bigger board great in the chop while all these shorter board riders struggle to stay up right. Just say'n.

Thanks fella's for the advice. I've borrowed a 8'10" at present & have a few surf in small clean waves. It's alot harder to paddle on to waves, but I'll give it a go for a few more surfs.

Hi Loopy,

I'm 90kg and paddle the 9'2". It works well for me. I would think the volume of the 8'10" may be a tad low for a 90kg dude, especially if there is any kind of chop around. I'm ok on the 9'2" in small chop (~12 knots). It goes well I reckon in small to large surf in full or hollow waves.

Here is a recent pic of a fairly easy wave in less than perfect conditions. It was a hoot in the absence of a better wave on the day.

Thanks DM.
I've had a few more nice clean surfs on the 8'10"& i'm starting to really like it. The only day I really didn't like it it was choppy & then I was wishing I had a bigger board. If it gets 12knts + I probably be kiting anyway. Any advice which type/size of paddle in the surf ?
