Lacey, I'm pretty sure I spotted a Ripcurl board or two at Fannings Rip Curl shop in Cooly on the weekend.

I'll come down and the wind is expected to pick up in the arvo for a down-winder if anyone's keen..

Paul and Cam might even have the new 14' Uli DW board there.

I wonder if they will? Unless they have a great price point advantage over boards like PSH, there doesn't seem to be anything particularly distinguishing in the shape. So do you think the brand alone will translate from people familiar and comfortable with their longboards?

They just might.. Have you seen the crowds that they get down at Torquey in Summer.. .. and RipCurl seems like 'the' brand to have.

I might pop in and see Sparrow next week and check out their boards.. I'll take some pictures and get some more info.

yeah, the 'power of the brand' and they do look pretty good for big boards. i would imagine they would have done their homework with the shapes in regards to how they go.

thinking back as a shortboard surfer, i was a bit suss on the unknown brands to me at that time. i was used to aussie brands then- names i knew

Have checked them out in the cooly store and they are NOT cheap. They appear to be top of the range prices. The big beasty is the old 11.6 southpoint kalama I do believe. Havent seen the smaller ones in the flesh though.

Hi guys,
Here are some of the dimensions and info re: the Rip Curl Sups-

The ones pictured in the original post are 10'6, 29 1/2 wide and 4 1/2 thick, single fin with 2 smaller stabiliser fins. They come with built in carry handles, deck grip and carbon fibre paddles. 'The smaller length makes them easier to turn and throw around like a normal board', say RC. RRP's being $1695.

Rip Curl also have some bigger boards available in 11'6, dimensions are:
11’6 x 28 7/8 x 4 1/2, available in blue grey only (pictured above). Single fin with smaller stabiliser fin set up. These also come with paddles, deck grip and built in handles. Cost price on these models (with paddles) is also $1695.

We will have a few on Saturday's demo day for people to look at!

Cheers,
Mick

My missus works there, I'll ask her the prices.

They take them for lunchy paddles across the road. A whole contingent of beginners living the dream 60 minutes at a time.....

$1695 for this and a carbon paddle? Yep, they're on a winner. Probably sell a ****load of them to Torquay tourists this summer. Good luck with your secret spots, surf coasters.

Now this is getting ridiculous! Guess next year it will be the Red Bull Range followed closely by the McDonalds Quiver with Fries. Gotta name, order a container load and some clown will buy one!

Kind of agree, if they put no R&D into it (which it sounds like is the case) then that's sorta lame. If I'm wrong then good on 'em.

Phill/Mick, I'm guessing you guys will have them available for sale so prices quoted are pretty spot on?

edit...p.s. I will try get down there, but surf looking like it could be pretty good and I finished my new board so we'll see. Cheers!

Surprised that its taken this long for one of the big 3 to launch into it. I wonder how long it will be before we see a Hurley with the Nike Swooooooosh on it gracing the boardstores.

I got to ride a new 9'8 Rusty (Boardworks) recently while in Hawaii. A really sweet board. Very stable while paddling yet loose in the waves. For me it also had a longboard feel as it felt very stable in noserides. I'd definitely buy one.

I'm surprised it's taken so long for people to notice. They have had them for a couple of years. The Bamboo laminate is new though.

Rip Curl actually has a surfboard program and afterall started as a surfboard company. They make a strong stand to work with shapers that work with their team ie DHD and Mick and Steph, Al Merrick and Taylor Knox. It is natural that they would include SUP boards to the range. I believe Claw actually rides SUP a lot of the time. Surfboards are not decorations in their stores, they sell quite a few.

Nothing against Bong and Quik but as far as actual commitment to surfing and products to support it Rip Curl has the pedigree. Billabong has them now that they've bought them (Excel, Dakine etc) but Rip Curl has had it all along. My disclaimer is that my missus works for them but all the more lucky for me that I get to wear the best wetsuits in the world cheap.

Are you sure these are new. I saw the Blue/grey Ripcurl one in Mick Fannings shop 12 months ago when I was on holiday in Coolangatta. I remember because my wife wanted one because it was "pretty".
