I was thinking he hit some kelp, but you are right, by looking at it frame by frame, we see clearly the foam of a wing breach.
he may has been just victim of a slight bump on the wave face, exiting the bump suddenly made the wing too close to the surface.
It happens a lot to me when I try to get cocky and ride too high above the surface.
