I plan to purchase a duotone foil assist system and I really need some insight into foil wing sizes.
I plan to purchase the entire system, everything except the board. In addition to the integrated mast, batteries, etc, I will also buy the duotone foil front and rear wings.
About me: currently wing foil with an Armstrong downwind board (8'3" 135L) and an Armstrong front wing s1 1550. I'm an athletic 88kg, decent surfer that can wing foil a mile in any direction. Gybes are hard. I want to use the doutone foil assist to get into unbroken thigh/waist high waves offshore of Charleston, SC. I've seen and surfed those waves very often, especially when the wind is onshore in the summer, and I know an assist will help get into the unbroken waves. Performance isn't the biggest concern. I'm middle-aged and want to have fun.
Here's the question: I'm enjoying my armstrong set up for winging, but want a dedicated mast for foil assist. I plan to prone or SUP surf with my Armstrong downwind board (8'3" 135").
Which duotone front and rear wings should I order? Is this a crazy question? I love foiling but getting into these super technical discussions do not play to my strengths. (Separately, i think this is the biggest hurdle in the sport...so confusing). For the front wing, maybe a glide 1100 or 1350? Really open to ideas, but want to stick with doutone for this excerise

Trying to prone a Foil Assist board 8-3 x 135L in waves is going to be crazy hard with the excess swing weight. The power on to power off will be so hard , you'll just be dropping the nose every time , it's so different from winging plus the lead from the mast to your backpack will have to be really really long. I seriously suggest you look at the Duotone Midfish Foil Assist boards 5-11 x 78L or 5-8 x 58L it will drop your learning curve to weeks not months. Couldn't even begin what foil to recommend on the 8-3. In efoil mode ( motor down near the foil ) the big boards work great in flat water but in the assist mode in waves it will be Taco Tuesday.

Really appreciate the information. I assumed that if I had success surfing this board while flagging my wind wing, I could use it for foil assist. I'll reconsider board choice.
Any thoughts on versatile front and rear wings that would work with the Midfish?

Hi Oakwater,

Pretty hard to go past the 1100 Glide SLS wings or if the budget will allow, the Duotone Crest DLAB 1050. I'm a little heavier than you and ride the Crest DLAB 925 and find that ample. I also use the 5'8"midfish. Great little board and as Piros said, it keeps the leash/cord short and swing weight for turns and pumping to a minimum.

Yeah +1 on that I'm a Crest Dlab fan and was going to recommend the 1050 & then down the track the 925 which is really popular with the DT Assist crew. Stab wise go bigger for now H185 or 210 then drop down to the Monobloc 37/160 I prefer a longer fuse.

Fantastic. Really appreciate the insight from both of you. Thanks for taking the time.
