Hi All

I just had a wander around Blackwattle Bay and saw a couple of cafes/restaurants with wharfs nearby, and was wondering if there was a list or suggestions about places where we could tie up our motor boat and safely get lunch, preferable while able to keep an eye on things.

thanks!

Cockle Bay Marina...will cost you, depending on size of boat, $40 for up to 3 hours. You can stay longer - for pretty well as long as you want ..over night is something in the region of $170. Yes v .expensive but its in the heart of Sydney CBD. Usually can just rock up , except on busy weekends / holidays. Nicks Restaurant will bring food to your boat. Depending on your size of boat, you will need to consider Pyrmont Bridge opening hours ( 10am and 3pm ??? weekends only -otherwise pay $110 from memory for a bridge opening). It can gets pretty rowdy / ugly down there (though not so bad outside of summer) when crowded..besides who's got the biggest boat, those stink boat owners love proving who's got the loudest doof doof music. Turn around and go home if you see any Riviera owners of "Middle Eastern appearance".

I do not know how big your motor-boat is., but have often seen people idle their motor boats on to the beach at Watsons Bay. Why do you need to 'keep an eye on things' ? - I have often parked my $3000 sea-kayak at Manly Cove and walked through The Corso to look at the ocean.

How's that work? Call them beforehand and they book you in or something?

I know there's a courtesy mooring in that bay too.

Echo on the Marina in Roseville, you can anchor out a bit near Roseville bridge and row in, it's quiet enough that some people stay overnight up there. OI there may be space on a berth if you call ahead.

Middle Harbour Yacht club and the other restaurants around the Spit sometimes have a space on their jettys.

Having been there many times, I'll stick to that statement... a generalisation yes, and in some instances unfair but in most instances true at that particular location.

This may help, bear in mind it is not complete and not all venues will allow to access them by boat.

If people said "stay away froim anglo-saxon Australian sailors because they are ****ing ****s" would you say you see no racism? Saying basically "stay away from people who come from certain races" is racism.

I don't believe there was any racism...blatant or otherwise...in what was posted,

He said it was true....that's good enough for me

I get it that you think it is racist purely because a region is being identified.

I love how the politically correct squad scream racism to deflect observation of actual facts. Races, with exceptions, follow their culture. I don't care for races that support the appalling Human Rights abuses that occur in Middle Eastern countries or those politically correct individuals who won't stand up for our culture of law and decency. Human Rights abuses - as a field partner of a medical charity - I can quote hundreds. But funny thing, not in western countries. I can easily draw a factual conclusion that standards of Human Rights are appallingly lower in Middle Eastern countries. If you are a journalist you can even be murdered in a Middle Eastern country in a Turkish embassy with no consequences!!

How does that flow down to us on boats, when individuals who's historic upbringing has limited concern for Human Rights and insomniacs comment?

My experience of staying on the moorings at the zoo last year was out of 4 occasions 3 were nightmares. Rivs Scarabs and jet skis ripping past us, yelling, loud doof doof music and beer bottles thrown into the water. The forth they weren't there. Guess who was there the three nightmare nights. Boats full of people of Middle Eastern appearance. That's the facts of 4 stays on the moorings at the zoo. 75 percent ruined by those people. Statistics don't lie.

Insomniac, I believe you and won't try to shut you down or defend their bad behaviour by screaming racism.

Funny this should come up now. I was checking out Pitwater and the Hawksbury on sat maps on Sunday and found this place that looks perfect for a stop off and meal. Boat is the only way to get there. Hope its not too exclusive up market. I saw the Angels did a live show a while back.

Jet ski are not allowed on the harbour so would be hard to be at the Zoo.

Funnily enough, people from your neck of the woods can often be very touchy when anyone stereotypes the locals. So do people from many other areas - but while they hate being stereotyped themselves, they don't mind stereotyping others.

When I sailed yachts around your neck of the woods I saw a fair bit of boganism and bad sportsmanship* as an observation of actual fact, but I don't stereotype you all as a bunch of redneck cheats.

I wasn't defending anyone's bad behaviour and no reasonable literate person could come to that conclusion from my post. I was just objecting to racism. Sorry to be so blunt, but since you think it's reasonable to insult people you shouldn't be offended.

* I also saw lots of great people, but the point is that you can't abuse an entire group because of the bad behaviour of a few.

That's exactly what I mean. They had a jet ski launched off one of their boats and couldn't care less about the rules.

That's true. Often a small number spoils the reputation of the large group. In this case I think it's the opposite. Theres a minority trying to bring about decent behaviour but they are fighting losing battle. Im not offended. If something's true it's true. Bad sportsmanship should get called out. If you mean Sydney I agree. There's even sledging between boats in a race.

How do you know it's a minority? And even if the good members of that group are a minority, how are those good people going to feel if they are stereotyped?

This is not like calling out bad sportsmanship, which is normally done at an individual level. This is a label being applied to all members of a large group. It's as bad as saying that you are a cheat because some people think that the majority of people who have raced are bad sports. They may also see you as being more likely to kill and rape, because you come from an area with a higher than usual rate of such crimes. All that sort of stereotyping seems to be far less positive than just treating individuals as individuals. But enough of this, it's not going to change anyone's mind.

Pays to keep an eye if you can and at Watson's bay you can. I've always kept my dinghy on the beach at manly. Sometimes for hours.
