http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12V-MARINE-FRIDGE-FREEZER-EVAPORATOR-PLATE-VD-21-/290728578147?pt=AU_Boat_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43b0c60c63
What I am aiming for over the next couple of years is if the head fits ok on the port side at the stern the forward head area will become a freezer up in forward cabin

Looks like you plan on doing a lot of fishing in the future HG. I reckon you could fit a couple of thousand dollars worth of fish fillets in a box like that.

The compressor unit looks to be very good quality as it should be if it is a Danfoss.

If you wanted to you wouldn't necessarily have to use that evaporator plate. I am sure that unit could run a couple of eutectic plates.

The most important part of a marine fridge is the cold box. If it has to be built in it is worth paying for the very best insulation and professional fibre glassing.

The shape of the box will then dictate what you use as evaporators.

That evaporator looks like it would be very efficient but I think it could puncture easily if it does not have a guard plate. It, by it's nature needs to be fixed to the side of the box whereas eutectic plates can be mounted like dividing panels across the box which allows them to draw heat from the products on both sides rather than trying to draw it through the side of the box.

You could be up for as much in solar panels and battery to run it as what the fridge costs.

You are doing a great job on this restoration HG. Only the best gear going into her.

I don't have a wife any more Cisco So I pay the boat weekly . I sort of figure on dropping into Bowen when the veggies are harvesting and Blanche and freeze as much as I can and add fish along the way. Unfortunately for me I have a middle ear problem so I cant drive to much depth these days so its snorkeling only for me .
The least amount of time spent in civilization the better once I retire.
I have 300 watt panel so far which wont be enough I don't think But Im not to sure as the weather down here in not really sunny. Im getting 14.4 volts and amps ranges from 1.1 to 4+ amps . The sun is low and Im parked up along side a rather large 40ft motor boat so the sun is lost a little early than Id like .Morning sun is lost to as the buildings around the Marina take the sun till around 10 am. Been running the stereo all day and have just resurrected an old dell laptop that work was throwing out ( well I resurrected a lot for the blokes I work with) I replaced the hard drive with a 1 TB with a partial SSD made it more responsive.
This will be my back up PC Ive still not finished my low power PC yet .Ive a collection of storage hard dirves with lots of things to listen, read and watch and a 12 volt power supply for it.

she will run off 12 volts shes called driftwood
I might add some thing like this for when my batteries are full to take a charge also
