Superb effort by the rescuers right there obviously thanks for posting Gary.

Am sure you won't mind me thread drifting in this instance - this below link rescue will be the best I will see in my time surely and hopefully.........the kudos gained worldwide for the RAN was absolutely enormous - and the video of clearance diver Alan Rub (nickname Bear) swimming off the RIB and banging onto Bullimores hull will never leave me. Apologies if too effusive. Great thanks to all our marine rescue services and authorities.

That damage to the side of the yacht , would that be from the chain plates being ripped out? looks to be a strongly built boat I hate to think how these modern ultra light built boats would have survived .

I was mates with ADELAIDE'S skipper Raydon Gates. The whole logistical and search and rescue effort was outstanding. Getting everyone back onboard from leave, getting the stores for the rescue, finding the yacht and getting Bullimore back onboard all deserves applause.
Bullimore's presence of mind and stamina to hold on was also amazing. Bullimore died on 21 July 2018.

Magnesium - there is a tendency for people to be a little biased in remembering which boats have troubles. At the moment there are over 100 very fast modern boats, putting massive loads on their structures and doing incredible speeds, all with high tech composite construction. Check out the Jacque Fabre www.transatjacquesvabre.org/en
It is true that some of these boats have been damaged, but the proportion is much lower than the number of Golden Globe yachts that retired from the last two editions of that race. And these modern things are going about 5 times faster, with correspondingly much higher loadings.
Carbon composite chainplates are much stronger and much better integrated into a boats structure than metal ones fastened with bolts. I hardly ever bolt anything onto my cat's hull, I almost always use modern techniques to make a stronger, watertight, rot resistant and stress reducing composite part that integrates perfectly with the rest of the structure. I think it would be a very silly yacht builder who did not make use of the best available material for their yachts, more and more this will be composite. Cheers

True, but there is a big difference between no-expense-spared racing yachts and modern lightweight production yachts built to price.

Absolutely, I think we can all agree that well built can be be done in traditional or modern style, as can shoddy. But some pretty inexpensive composite boats can be strong, they just have to be well built. I think that some modern production boats are not well built. I was on a cat that had the cabin furniture not tabbed to the hull side but screwed at the floor only, it beggars belief that any competent company would do this, but hey it had soft close drawers in the kitchen ( I hestitate to call it a galley)
