Hi all

Sitting here at the moment and looking out across the river and it is a beautiful sunny day bet there is is not a breath of wind and on a day like today i wouldn't consider going out on the boat to go for a sail

The silly thing is if I had a power boat it would be a perfect day and I would be out there and the yacht has a motor so why don't i just go out and go for a motor and perhaps throw a line in and see if I can catch a fish

I have no idea why I have this mind set of if there is no wind it is a waste of time going out and I wonder if others think the same

Depends where. Down there absolutely , you never know wind could pick up be lovely on water anyway ,scones jam and cream with cuppa on deck contemplating navel or scenery whoopee .

Could look at it that way to. Roasting your Arse on deck sails backwinding. Depends if someone has kicked you out of the house am I right?

Yes. Take extra beer.

No need when your stash or "ballast" (remember that) is already located on board. Even better if anyone asks where the beer has gone. All you have to say is that there was no wind and the boat was too heavy. All excess weight had to be removed.

besides you always go it is tassie. Be wind along soon enough

I do all the time. Just a quiet slow chug around in good surrounds relaxing until a breeze comes in.

Yep , start the iron Genoa and go for a slow cruise around the Derilict boats and wonder why they don't get used and go to ruin, maybe not eneogh wind lol your drink doesn't fall over either .

I normally do that in my tender when i am returning from the boat

We have been here for 7 years and I reckon that there are boats on moorings in the bay that have never moved

You could be right

I went out for a sail yesterday afternoon when it was overcast and and we had nothing leaving and entering the bay but around Bullock Point it picked up to around 6 to 8 knots and we had a nice sail with the breeze behind down to Brooks Bay and then a beat back up the river

The only thing i don't like about winter sailing is that once the sun dips below the hills around 4,30 pm the temperature drops suddenly

Well up where I live in Rodds Bay I have 25 degree days and it only gets down to 15 at night. Must be cold down In Tassie, looks like it has been getting down to 3 degrees lately. I prefer taking my mates boat out ( apart from a 17ft Haines hunter I am currently boatless, after selling Shanty). To the Great Barrier Reef or over to pancake creek.

Where i I can catch some nice reef fish ( still got all my fishing marks from my line fishing days in my teens), go SWIMMING and SNORKELING. I am supposed to be working on a tug on Brisbane for a week next week. I will probably take my Haines down to Brissy for a weekend over at the Sand hills. Am I making you envious? I mean I will want to be with you when we have got 40 degree heat waves.

To brighten up the day when the wind drops what I sometimes do is start motor set speed so that appearant wind comes forward to a tight beat and waste time trying to set sails to optimum. Hmm perhaps I should just open a ... na messes up cockpit.

All the time. Good excuse to give the iron topsail a good run. Diesels are designed to run hard over long periods. Most yachts start up off the mooring or dock and shut down. They need a good run

We had one of those drifter days yesterday, and I must admit I enjoyed it immensely, the water was like a mirror.

Yes, we are only 1600 kgs so it was fun staying with a competitive Beneteau 47 (Reve) yesterday.
We use light lines on the spinnaker for some of yesterday. we held them in our hand, just like fishing.
In the heavy winds we occasionally get spun 180 degrees, or take water on board which is still exciting.

This is a follow up video to the Lake Geneva storm cell, taken from another boat. This looks every bit of the 60 knots recorded at the time.
Go to 5:45 for all hell breaking loose, but the whole 7 mins is well worth watching.
Hope its a bloody big lake.

Hope the reverse thread drift is ok Don, it's just such a cool video.
And it reminds me of a Tassie idea of a storm.



What do you reckon, dug the nose in?

Yeah definitely, anyone else think the boat went arse

Morpho is a Grand Surprise, so assymetrical kites. The last minute of the video is the rig coming down, poor sods.
