I was hoping for some guidance on additives for both of the above. Maggie is slowly getting ready for the summer
the fuel tank has been quarter full for 18 months and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to put in a diesel additive
the water tanks have been near empty for the same period or longer
any advice is greatly appreciated. btw I start twilight sailing next month. Yee-haa

Hi, I use fuel doctor in the fuel, initially to solve a bug problem and then as a preventative, and with the water I dose the tank with chlorine and fill it up, leave for a couple of days, making sure that the chlorinated water comes out all the taps, drain refill the tank, flush everything and drain then refill and should be good to go. If you have a filter in the system, bypass it first, last thing you want is chlorine in the filter. ![]()

Out of all additives I have used, the only product that made difference is a cetane booster. I used Lucas 1.9L will treat around 700L of diesel. Others, such as decarbonisation etc made nothing than harm to the engine. cetane booster will definitely help to start the engine faster (almost instantly) and it will burn cleaner ( less smoke).
Good luck
