Try Dieselworks in Queenland.. A mate in SA sent his engine to them. They repaired a cracked head and reconditioned other parts, rather than replacing original parts.. They also offer an engine exchange.
Transport was a considerable amount, but still cheaper and faster than getting the work done locally. With the boat being already in QLD, transport costs, won't be an issue. Give them a call...
Cheers..

Thanks Michael

I relayed that info to him yesterday as I am now home in Sydney and he says he had contacted them and they are going to get back to him by Monday with info about whether they have one in storage. Bit strange as you would expect them to know their stock.

The next guy to sail with them is the son of a friend of ours who is in the navy and coincidentally won a cash prize for being the quickest in a navy contest to reassemble a Volvo Penta motor. He's in good hands but the boat will still have to be hauled out and the engine will still have to be pulled out. The hard part is getting the old motor out and particularly getting the new motor in as it is shaft drive inboard side of hull amidships (multiple custom A frames have to be welded up) rather than super accessible like the production cats with their sail drives.

The most holy of public holidays up here Monday, Labor Day.
