I enjoyed that. Why all the hand steering? The winds are pretty consistent, a wind vane would handle that very well.

I think they where enjoying the sail , if you read the bio on that clip they say they could of easily picked a sunny no wind day , but they felt it wasn't their idea of sailing around the Horn.

They can't be seriously claiming that was "storm force", can they? It's nothing but a pleasant breeze, even allowing for the fact that cameras can make conditions seem calmer.

"Storm Force" is when there is"Very high waves with long overhanging crests. The resulting foam, in great patches, is blown in dense white streaks along the direction of the wind. On the whole, the surface of the sea takes a white appearence. The tumbling of the sea becomes heavy and shock-like. Visibility affected."

This is an official pic of Storm Force winds;

Two reefs in and 14 knots in a J/46 is a pleasant breezy sail, not "storm force".

I'd have to agree there. I would want to take a picture or a video if I was rounding the horn and sitting down below with a cup of coffee while the autohelm takes care of it just wouldn't cut it even in the absence of having to produce a YouTube video. They are fun conditions to be at the helm anyway. Not boring but not scary.

BOM has storm force winds forecast for the South Coast today. Fortunately SW so wont effect us much unless we are dumb enough to head offshore!

Clearly far from "storm force".
