Hi guys
Just wondering if anyone has recently done an installation or replacement installation. I'm just looking at the feasibility of converting an ice box in a trailer sailer.
Presumably I am after pretty much the smallest system available and any sources of supply would be welcome. I would also like a kit where one part is pre gassed and then I just have to release the gas into the whole system if this type of unit is still available.
I guess I would be looking at the cheapest unit that doesn't use a Chinese compressor if there is such a thing anymore.
I wonder if it would be feasible to buy a portable Bushman or Mr Coolman unit then rip it apart and use the mechanicals and electrics?

You have essentially described the Ozefridge system, reliable and durable.
Jules the modern portable fridge don't have a cold plate as such, it's part of the box less prone to damage but impossible to repair if it is damaged. Instead of retro fitting an existing box how about removing the existing box and fitting a portable in its place ? You can use it in your car when shopping and your yacht as a dedicated " drinks " fridge. Look for something with a secop compressor & you'll get good service out of it
Hi Jules,
in the TS world, a Danfoss compressor kit can be purchased and retrofitted to most boats with ice boxes. This is/was a common upgrade for Noelex 25's which had a slide out ice box under the steps. From memory about $1000
theres a second hand one on eBay for under $500 currently.

Jules, I'm in Sydney and have a danfoss BD50 compressor that was in my boat but the evaporator developed a leak and I replaced it all with an Ozefridge. The compressor ran just fine and if you wish to acquire it make me an offer
, would require install by a competent fridge tech though. A new evaporator would also be needed.

Thanks for that UncleBob but if I end up doing it the last thing I want is tradies involved so I would need to get a pre-gassed kit.
Thanks also SaltySails. Unfortunately even the smallest kit gives no change out of 2000 now once you get a proper thermostat.
Engel use to do these Ice box conversion kits but they are now discontinued. They are probably exactly what you want.

Strange website. Says product is no longer available but then invites you to pay for it and pick it up. Paying is only by transfer to their bank account and there is no pickup address or phone number.
