It looks like my old st4000 has chucked the towel in, the head shows off coarse & doesn't take any notice of the compass, I swapped the compass same deal, for the amount I use it I recon I will replace it with the simrad tp 32 similar thrust specs. Anyone got any opinions of them, good, bad or indifferent ?

Isn't the st4000 wheel based and the tp 32 tiller based?

What about the newer and supposedly smarter Raymarine EVO?

The other option is the Pelagic but Rob Livelace reckons the Evo works better.

Sorry but still not understanding what is proposed. Are you proposing hooking up the ram primarily designed for a tiller directly to a quadrant or a lever on the rudder shaft of a quadrant steered yacht?

Looked at the evo as my existing ram could be kept as a spare, but I don't use the pilot a great deal, thought to save a thousand bucks and go with a combo like the simrad if they are any good

Nope just replacing an old unit completely

I had a TP32 on my S&S34 for about 10 years and many offshore miles including 3 Lord Howe trips.
it got dropped, drowned and fallen on and was still working when I sold the boat. I replaced the little drive belt once and it wasn't steering to a waypoint but otherwise it did it's job well.

I'm about to put a Raymarine Evo, St4000, P70 display and compass on marketplace for $1500 as as rough guide
