Hmm...wonder if they sort out the double handed issue by then?
This'd be a bit wet, but would be an awesome trip.
It does have appeal
.

Should make it Sydney, Gabo Island, return
But only for non North Sydney residents. This might severely limit the number of entries!
I commend the Sydney Hobart race officials for making the brave but really only sensible decision.
This is an outrage!
Didnt we all get that tracker code thing so we have accurate contact tracing?
could have just stopped participants who were flagged by contact tracing.
I don't know how widely the tracing system has been picked up. I guess there is allways the chance that someone from the northern beaches may not have downloaded it so you cannot guarantee. At the end of the day its about Tassies response and closing border decisions that ultimately dictates the decision made.
It's a real shame, but Ramona is right, it's a commendable decision. It's not just Tassie saying no, a very large number of the sailors would either be from the northern beaches or visited there. A yacht would be a hot house to spread it to other crew if one is infected.
It does seem much of the contact tracing is manual. I don't think it is recording locations, just contacts over a persistent period with some technical limitations as well.
One of the main angles from the Commodore of the CYCA, about the race in general and the option of going into the Derwent then turning around was inevitably a rescue may be likely, and it's ultimately uneccasary to put the rescuers in close contact with people from a Sydney hotspot. A fair call.
Thats a real shame for you jBarnes, I hope you get a chance next year.
A good result for the Sunfish though!??![]()

Not many would want to turn around and sail out of Hobart!
there was plenty of time to isolate and test the crews from the northern beaches.
Just a load of bollocks.
and a risk for rescue crews? The odds of actually catching it, and then for someone fit enough to perform rescues to be badly affected by it would be miniscule.

Stray, You are entitled to express your view on this, but it is exactly that, a load of Bollocks.
It is just sport, yes many guttered by the decision, many financially out of pocket, many things have been cancelled, but we live to sail another day.
Merry Christmas

You've clearly never been down to a Marine Rescue base. The "young blokes" are probably in their 40s or 50s at best.
For what it's worth, my father has been serving for 45 years, has one lung, one kidney, pacemaker and a host of other medical issues, but still gets out on the water to help every couple of weeks.
Very disappointed. Was to be my first Hobart this year!
That's no good Barnsey!
Feel for ya
Front up again next year mate![]()
I agree they had no choice in the decision but I believe there could have been a workable solution if the club had more support from all tiers of government.
This impacts both Sydney and Hobarts economic recovery. The flow on to small business and employees will be significant.
It's a bad thing for the nation's morale.
I just believe it could have and should have been saved.
They could fly footballers around the country and find exemptions for them but a true Australian icon sporting event was just left with zero support or options .
Boxing day will never be the same for me![]()
As a Tasmanian resident l think it was the only choice they could make at the end of the day.
It's definitely a shame for all those involved in the actual race and their supporters, the Hobart business that now will lose a lot of money, like Customs House and other pubs etc etc but the Tasmanian health system would really struggle ( even more than it does now ) if an outbreak were to happen thanks to the activities.
so long as they broadcast 1/2 a day of old 18fters, or Vendee footage instead on Boxing Day instead.
Not everyone is into polishing red balls with sandpaper.
Looks like we will all have to do the Virtual race which they are still running.

Or counting short runs, looking for no balls, 7 ball overs, hot spot snickometers, foot on the rope, drinks time, wearing 3 hats......discuss.........
Who has the broadcast rights?!??
All may not be lost!!!!
we need, nay ,demand a Boxing Day highlight tv package of the race.
including a history of winners , losers and everything in between!!!
c'mon channel 9, 7, 10!!!
put something together and in a way keep a national boxing day tradition alive?
this is a race that is part of the Australian Christmas tradition.
bugger flogging racehorses to death
this is the classic Aussie race
