I recently bought a boat that had its name stuck on the mainsail. I removed the name but a residue of the stick on stuff remains. Does anyone know a method to remove it? thanks

Eucalyptus oil.

You can use Eucalyptus oil, or Orange oil, or any of the store bought goo removers. They still make it hard work, and you end up with a lot of sticky gooey balls of old adhesive because the oils don't necessarily dissolve the adhesive and break it down.

In the sign business we use ImagePerfect Vinyl Remover Pro. It would be wise to test anything on an old piece of sailcloth, in case it eats it away. We use it on clear acrylic though and it works a treat.

Have had good success with this for removing the residual glue off cut down Etchells sails under insignias and numbers after they have been peeled off. May need a few applications to get the glue to a state it can be rubbed off with a cloth. Messy as per MichaelR but it worked. Finish off with IPA or acetone.

If all else fails put white stickyback cloth over it or if you just want it to not be sticky, rub baby powder into it.
