Although I am totally unfamiliar with the area, I am starting to think about moving my 10m gaff timber yacht to Lake Macquarie and looking for suggestions on a marina berth for it. I'd only spend time sailing within the lake so don't need to be near the ocean entrance. Also don't need to be close to Newcastle. A quiet area where a summer inrush of tourists is almost unheard of. I'd also consider living permanently nearby. I'm guessing I won't be able to afford a lake front property with my own jetty but if they exist for under $800k I'd love to hear about it.
So any suggestions for (1) a marina, and (2) a quiet suburb to live in?

My wife and I are planning eleven days at Marmong Point Marina starting on Friday 10 September.
Are there any 'Seabreezes' interested in meeting up at that time?

After further consideration of transport for my wife we are now planning to stay at the RMYC Toronto.

Wyee Point Marina, doesn't get much quiter.
Not sure about prices or availability but should suit you

Excelent
Try Wyee Bay at the southern end of Lake Maquarie, there is a small and pretty run down marina on the western shore, and Mannering Park township occupying the peninsula to the east. Very quiet and more to the point, sheltered from the south and the north. Realestate in mannering park can be reasonable as there is a mix of waterfront and old holiday cottages. Anywhere in the suburb is close to the water.
From satellite pictures and the marina's websites on the west side of the lake I only see Marmong having a travel lift.
Where do yacht owners slip their boat on the west side of the lake?
(I see some options on the east side of the lake but if I were to live on the west side is it really practical to drive back and forth to the east side to do maintenance while the boat is on a hard stand?)
I have had a better time at Marmong than Marks Pt. Marks Pt does not seem well set up for people to work on their own boats. I am not a fan due to their attitude towards boat owners. Marmong is much easier to work at.
Best thing to do is to cruise up the coast and stop in at the Boat works. Once you go there you will be spoilt forever, cheaper and incredibly well set up. Of course you do need to go cruising but I would recommend anyone leave the antifoul/painting until Southport and leave 1 week earlier rather than use anywhere near Sydney/Newcastle.

Yes, Marmong is the only travel lift.

If you were to live on the west side it would be more practical to use Marmong. ![]()
