Hi Seabreezers have you any hints from the brains trust to make the removal of a engine simple and re install.
- take it apart and crane the old girl out of the companion way but put the new engine in with gear box how have you acomplished this before.

The term "simple" is incompatible with the term "boat".
I don't mean to sound snarky, but you should be prepared for it taking about 4 times as long as you had hoped, for at least twice the money. I've been wrangling my engine since Christmas, and that's just chasing a minor drip in the fuel lines.
I changed a Bukh 10hp for a Beta 14hp single handed 2 years ago. Yes even at my ripe old age. I disconnected everything from the Bukh and took off the flywheel to make it lighter. I put a piece of 12mm ply on the cabin sole to drop the engine on. I put a prop from the boom to the cockpit floor wrapped a rope around the boom and slung a block and tackle that I bought cheap from Aldi. I attached the block to the engine, took the weight a little and just pulled the engine off the mounts and lowered it on to the ply. I got the work boat to pull it through the hatch. I just reversed the order to put the Beta in. I did however get the local mechanic to line it all up for me. Never been a problem since.
If the old engine was good but just worn out, recondition it or replace with the same model engine if you can buy one.
That makes mounting, aligning, plumbing and electrical so much easier.

White out I think a rebuild and a refit to the original mounts is the way to unless you have put a conrod through the side of the crankcase.

On my old UFO 34 we used the club crane to haul it out thru the main hatch and again to drop in the new one. Was going to rebuild but the old one turned out to be a writeoff. The new one needed new support beams as it was smaller and lighter, both Yanmar 20 HP.

If parts are readily available for your engine ,rebuild it . The old volvos you can't get the parts that will kill your motor such as heads and manifolds . Buhk I am led to believe , you can get it all. I had a Volvo. I cut out the cockpit floor and had an easy job getting the old one out , making new engine beds and installing new engine . Used a crane at the boatyard for the lifting . Refitted cockpit floor with epoxy and painted with non slip.
