Thumbs Up

I have now been out in all breezes 4 or 5 times with the NASA wireless Wind Indicator. Mine only gives AWS .AWS and TWS systems are available
It was very very easy to install and synchronise .
Good
Cheap compared to other wind systems wired or not. ( On special from UK)
Base unit can be wired to NMEA systems
Seemingly transducer has been upgraded from original which had a not so good reputation .
Easy to read with adjustable red back lighting and adjustable digital pointer
Wind Speed readout large and easily read can be Kts, mph or m/s.
Annoying
The mast head Unit transmits to the base unit every second so the pointer tends to jump . Imagine a quartz watch second hand jumping from second to second compared to a mechanical watch where the second hand rotates smoothly.
When the wind speed drops under 2kts the transmission is every two seconds .
Being a sailing nutter I like to see how close hauled I can get every time the wind suits and would prefer the digital display showing degrees instead of 45 degree markers but thats just me.
Not Happy but no deal breaker
I cannot work out why yet but sometimes the transmission between the base unit and the mast head unit is lost which causes the system to go to sleep for 2.5 minutes before it tries to reconnect.
It has happened twice and both times was when there was a sudden movement eg. yesterday slipping along nicely with full main and genoa on a beat with AWS of 13/14 kts when hit by strong gust . Coffee spilt and crewman needlessly letting out mainsheet ( panic) so boat jolted back from well heeled .
I reckon it has something to do with the little flexible ( wire) antenna on the base unit.
In summary. You get what you pay and imo best for cruisers and wags sailors. Wind speed readout great but would prefer different wind direction display .
