I am looking at a boat with a gas cooktop and grill at Lake Macquarie, that has an obviously non-compliant gas installation. Where do I find the marine gas regulations for NSW? I did some searches but can't find anything. Any recommendations for a marine gasfitter at Lake Macquarie?

And yes I know the issues with gas on boats, so no need to start that debate. Thus the reason I am looking for a professional to make the installation compliant with whatever regs there are in NSW.

I am assuming gas bottles not in cabin and in a locker vented overboard, gas detector in the bilge and a gas solenoid/shutoff in event of a leak detected by the sniffer.

This company includes marine gas fitting services on their website; they should be able to answer the question on regulations? Caves Beach based.

gasservice.com.au/

See lengthy article here which indicates it has to be done right as you say; www.mysailing.com.au/cruising/have-you-got-gas-be-alarmed

Also discussion on this forum from 2013 which mentions an Australian Standard, AGA certification for your appliance, plastic covered copper piping, and automatic gas shut off system when the flame goes out are all needed. www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f47/gas-regulations-in-australia-96635.html T

hese SA govt docs are very good; can't find the same for NSW. www.sa.gov.au/topics/boating-and-marine/boat-and-marine-safety/boat-electrical-and-gas-safety www.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0016/21481/LPG_Safety_on_marine_craft_and_houseboats.pdf

But found this for NSW - www.legislation.nsw.gov.au/view/pdf/asmade/sl-2018-757

The Aust Standard quoted is AS5601.2; www.standards.org.au/standards-catalogue/sa-snz/electrotechnology/ag-006/as-slash-nzs--5601-dot-2-colon-2020

Fair Trading has this; www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/housing-and-property/building-and-renovating/preparing-to-build-and-renovate/using-a-gasfitter

The AG601 standards are what you're after. check the lpg section on caravan and boats.

I'd call by and check it but the 6 hr return trip would be a bit far

Yeah, but the boat may end up closer to you soon!

But I think the reality is the gas situation needs to be rectified before I close on the deal and take possession of the vessel. r13 has given me a contact for a gasfitter up that way, so will see how this plays out with the seller. I want it done properly.

And while the gasfitter is at the boat I will get him to plumb in a BBQ on the pushpit.
