This video is taken at one of the several entrances/exits to Pearl Harbour, Hawaii.
Looking at the video, the yacht appears to be on the wrong side of the channel marker buoys.
Look up the location on Google Earth. It is quite amazing.
The Americans use the channel markers on the other side, just to be difficult. So their green markers are on the right side (leaving habour), if that makes any sense!!
No I don't think that is the case. As far as I am aware the U.S. and pretty much everybody else in the world uses the I.A.L.A. (International Association of Lighthouse Authorities) bouyage system which is based on the direction of the tide.
The rule is "When travelling in the direction of the incoming tide, the starboard hand markers (Green cone/light) will be the starboard markers and the port hand markers (Red can/light) will be the port hand markers.
The opposite is true if traveling in the opposite direction of the incoming tide.
If that rule is not indelibly printed in your mind, you should not be in charge of any vessel.
In the case of Point Panic where the video is shot, the incoming tide flows out of the harbour due to there being several entrances to it.
As I said, check it out on Google Earth and don't assume that all yanks are tools.
