Hi Everyone
I've had my Triton 24 Sailboat For 6 mths now and I love it but the other Day I went to move off my swing mooring And she just wouldn't move at All , the Wind and tide had me going backwards??
Had it full throttle and nothing , Was wondering if the Prop is slipping if that's possible, it's like I had no prop at all .
Or could it be a gear shift problem ??
The gearshift is a simple push in pull out lever on side of the portside cockpit , Push it in and it should engage the transmission as I understand it .
It has A 8 HP Yanmar Diesel engine.
Any Advice from a Professional to A Amateur would be very much Appreciated before I have to Spend More money on the old girl.
Start it up drop it in gear an see if the shaft is turning, then you'll be able to deduce if it's the transmission or the prop. My guess a broken Morse cable

Selling a small yacht I had years ago, bringing her from the swing mooring to a marina to collect the potential buyers, approaching the berth (buyers watching on the dock) I put her into neutral and she didn't slow down so into reverse still didn't slow down and I was running out of room so I gave it a burst of power to stop the boat and she lurched forward and straight into the floating berth.
The bolt holding the morse cable to the gear selector has dropped off and she was still in forward.
I would suggest the prop is just covered in shell. If it is a folder or a two blade fixed prop it does not take much shell to effect the props performance. If the prop had fallen off the engine will rev very easily!
Take a swim and give it a scrape or fix an underwater camera to a boat hook and investigate.

Yep Murphy's law, we could probably have a thread about broken Morse cables. I
had one let go whilst manoeuvring in to cradle at a local slip with a cross current, Luckily had a mate onboard to help handle lines, he ended up manipulating the lever at the transmission as I called the directions, was the least graceful docking I've seen
