Would any be able to tell me how much my sonata 6 Will keel before a capsize is expected regards

It is not only important to have the keel down, but also to have a keel lock-down mechanism. They have a screw-in friction clamp, but some people have added a cable from the leading edge.

Here is a photo of the pivot and the friction clamp. Clamp at the top. Dont think it worked too well so that is why the cable version is fitted. Mind you, the sailing would need to be fairly robust for this to be needed. Main reason is to stop movement in a slop.

If it is a swing keel and you LOCK it down, a hard grounding or a whale strike is going to break the boat.

If it is locked down with a wire tackle attached to the front of the centre board there needs to be a weak link that will break before anything else does.

A Sonata 6 is really a sheltered waters boat, and at 5knt max, you are highly unlikely to hit a whale. Grounding a swing keel boat can do damage even with no lock down, as the side forces can be large.
