Check this out at 8 mins. These guys are pretty straight down the line too.
Now you've done it, Serb is going to start a fresh batch of antifoul experiments with ivermectin and coppercoat

Ha ha :).
But seriously good on him. We need more people to experiment.
Otherwise we will be forever stuck with the current crop of anti-foulings which are costing us an arm and a leg and don't work very well.
Great for the environment. Not!!
No anti-fouling is good for the environment. That's the point of the stuff. It poisons marine life that tries to attach to your boat.
Until someone comes up with an ultrasonic or electric type system that works this is the way all anti-foulings must work
Perhaps we should go back to lead or tin ? If you want a good thing that works. To my way of thinking an anti parasitic that works in animal gut COULD adapt to a saline environment easily enough to be a major environmental disaster. We've issues with anti biotics in the aquatic system already ! We are the drivers of evolution choose wisely

The silicone based coatings appear to be significantly less toxic, as you would expect.

There seems to be numerous good reports about it as long as your boat is used...
Clever thinking Woko, as a Science teacher I should have been up on the idea that all antifoulings will dimish in effectiveness over time due to natural selection. Those barnacles that have a better ability to handle copper based biocides will have an advantage over their fellow barnacles and reproduce, producing a generation of barnacles better able to handle biocides. Therefore we will have to keep on using different antifouls over time to switch selection pressures. So maybe we should change antifouls or be different from our peers in the anchorage.
