Anyone else had an increase of over 20%? Club Marine.
I use NRMA for both my boats. I feel confident I will be treated fairly by them.

I have used Ian at Steel Pacfic for years, he always gets me the best price from the big providers.
Excellent service with claims also, 100 % recommended

I think the insurance companies think that after the first year it's too much trouble for the customer to shop around. My business insurances have done the same over the years so after shopping around I always find a quote close to the previous year's premium.
20% in one year is too steep.
been with Nautilus for many years and had an increase of about 20% despite no claims at all since I've owned the boat. Topsail took it on cheaper than my last premium. Just shows there is no loyalty to the customer.
Im looking at boat insurance now for a new to me second had 40 foot cat
I contacted the broker who current owner uses, he got 2 quotes for me, club marine and nautilus, both about the same price at just under 5K per year, but......
Club excess 7500 and limited to use locally only, no off shore cover.
Nautilus excess 2000 with the usual 250 Nm off shore
Pantaenius came back to me with about $1000 less on policy, excess 2000 with the usual 250 Nm off shore
Is it worth going with a broker?

I really would seek out anyone that has had a claim with Pantaenius and find out how well that went. I have read that their insurance is close to worthless when push comes to shove.![]()
a new to me second had 40 foot cat
Congratulations!! I'll keep an eye out for you.
I'm with Club Marine - Your excess seems high compared to mine & I also have the 250nm offshore as well.
It might be because it's a cat!! ![]()
I don't have a broker
To those that are insured with club marine, you do realise that you are dealing with Allianze don't you, have you ever had to claim on an Allianze policy??

Hi lazzz and thanks. Bridge booked for next May ???
Deal not compleated yet but very very close. Can't wait
As to Club, they don't see all the years that I have been around / owning power boats, never made a claim, counts to owning a sail boat weather a mono or a cat

Not true. This rumour started with a WA owner who lied to Pantaenius about his boat. When they didn't pay he went public.
it was all rubbish. I was with them for years and made one claim. They were brilliant.

Sorry, on a 2nd reading this post of mine sounds harsh. I meant to say that my experience with Pantaenius was excellent and that their reputation from the WA incident was undeserved.

I didn't take the original post to be harsh at all, actually good to hear that you have had positive results with them, but there are reports from elsewhere that have not been so good, not just here in Aus.

No I didnt categorise the comments, both were from Cruisers Forum and I can only report what i read. Accuracy NOT guaranteed. ![]()
Pantaenius got a mention this morning on the CruisersForum. Apparently, they have pulled out of the USA market. They were only insuring boats newer than 1985 anyway.
Personally Club Marine dont have the best repuatation in my circle. A mate had his 20ft trailer boat stolen from his driveway and they refused to pay him out. A few of the folks on the haines hunter facebook group have problems with them as well. I was with them for 2 years but never had to claim.
Insurance companies again!
This is a shameless plug but its right on topic and may save some of you from being ripped off.
I designed a device to alert myself by SMS if anything monitored goes wrong on my boat. (Such as flooded bilge, flat batteries, boat adrift etc). Invention is called Trek Transponder and have sold nearly 1000 since 2014. Some Seabreezers have one. Once I got it going I switched to third party and since then saved $4K. Doing that has risk. Im relying on nothing happening on my boat so fast or so expensive that I couldnt fix it if I went there in sufficient time, as long as I know. Now if anything goes wrong I do know. SInce 2014 3 bilge pumps failed but no drama because I knew the bilge was flooding. Another time a tarp blew over my solar panel which stopped the batteries charging. I got a "batteries low" alarm. Im also relying on my boat being not to expensive so if I lost it totally I would not be happy (Im relying on that being super unlikely as insurance companies do!) but it wouldnt be a disaster. The only mandatory insurance now is third party to cover crew and other boats. We tried to get insurance companies interested in packaging it with policies. Guess what? They werent interested. Viewed it as competition! Food for thought ![]()
Hi uncle bob,
I had a Toyota forerunner insured with Alliance about 10 years ago.I rolled it on a bush track near Norseman,It was fully loaded with camping gear with lots of goody's. It was a complete right of. I was with a mate. I ask Alliance if I could recover the car back to Perth myself. They said OK so long as I didn't charge more than their contractor. We drove to Kalgoorlie got a car float then back to Norseman then Perth and returned the float to Kalgoorlie. Then back to Perth via back roads. Alliance paid all of that. I did not have to go to there holding yard to recover all my gear. They came to my place to pick up the wreck.
